Afro pop singer Reekado Banks has in an interview with F word Magazine slighted Afrobeat singer, Wizkid, saying he totally forgot they have a song together.
The duo had at some point in October 2020 been involved in a debacle of sorts over the release date of a collaborative effort Omo Olomo, which Reekado had announced the release in the heat of the #EndSARS protests that rocked major cities late last year.
When asked during the interview the reason for not including the collabo with Wizkid in the ‘Off the Record’ EP, Reekado Banks had this to say:
“Cos I forgot about it. I don’t know what that is man. But yeah, the Wizkid one I totally forgot about it already. And the Burna Boy one was… I don’t know that time, I thought it was going to be fun to, you know, get on and just vibe like everybody else was but obviously, he wasn’t having it and he made it clear. And now we’ve moved past that. And it’s just fine.”
We think the above response would have been inspired by the time Wizkid had called Reekado an animal in a tweet he later deleted. Wizkid had felt Reekado was being rather insensitive to social justice issues by wanting to drop music at a time of upheaval in the country.
Reekado had tweeted:
“Out of control, gbedu must drop. This one with my brother @wizkidayo “OMO OLOMO” midnight dropping Still on the matter !!! #EndSWAT #EndSARS #EndPoliceBrutality”
To which Wiz replied:
“Delete this dude ! Can’t believe you’re even doing this at a time like this. Old song ! #endsars fool!” Wizkid said.
