It looks like former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio will be answering some tough questions as it is being reported that he has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over a multi-billion naira fraud case.
According to Premium Times, he was arrested on earlier today at about 5:20pm.
PREMIUM TIMES investigation shows that Mr. Akpabio was taken in by EFCC operatives at about 5.20 pm.
He was said to have been accompanied a few aides and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Ricky Tarfa.
An aide to the former governor, who cannot be named because he is not authorised to speak on the matter told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Akpabio is currently being interrogated by top officials of the EFCC.
An EFCC source confirmed the development.
“He was brought in at about 5.20 pm accompanied by a few aides and Mr. Rickey Tarfa,” the source said.
“It is not yet known whether he will be allowed to go this night. It depends on how the interrogation goes.”
It is reported that the figure being investigated is about 108 billion naira ($500 million) in Akwa Ibom state funds. The investigation began back in June of 2015.
Akpabio will be the latest ex official being interrogated over mismanaged funds in the past month. Former Minister of Petroleum, Deizani Allison-Madueke has also been question recently over mismanagement of funds, and is currently facing charges of money laundering in the UK.
I guess those private jets, and plenty light skinned babes (Nigerian and Foreign) we’ve heard about Akpabio are revealing their sources. Let’s wait and see what happens.
