RedBox Ltd. in association with Stroke Action Nigeria will be hosting a charity event in Abuja in the month of August 2014 called “For Every Stroke”.
Stroke Action Nigeria’s, a subsidiary non-profit company of Stroke Action UK, mission is to provide services to reduce the incidence, complications and the burden of strokes. In order to uphold the company’s CSR objectives, Redbox Ltd. decided to collaborate on this project with Stroke Action because a gaping need to inform and educate members of the public on the prevention and effects of having a stroke was identified.
This Charity event is aimed at raising funds and creating awareness about this ailment and educates the public on how to handle life after stroke. .
“For Every stroke” was birth from the personal pain and strife from its team members- Emeka Nwosu, Mimi Achineku, Doosuur Tilley-Gyado and Amaka Okwuonu. One of the team member’s mum and another’s uncle who raised them after their father was murdered suffered a stroke. They are recovering but it’s been an ordeal. After seeing their struggles for recovery, a member suggested organising a charity run in order to show appreciation to their loved ones and for anyone out there who has ever had to recover from a life threatening ailment and the people who have dedicated their lives to help.
Amaka and Doosuur of Redbox, a primarily corporate events which such clients like TOTAL, Galaxy Backbone, AMCON, KEYSTONE BANK, decided to offer their expertise, time and efforts as a CSR project for the company. It was then decided to not just make it a run but a day for all who have gone through a similar ordeal. And “For every stroke” charity event was born. There after, Stroke Action Nigeria was contacted because of their efforts and strides in educating the world about stroke and its undying commitment to stroke victims, Rita Melifonwu, CEO has been nothing but a god sent. They are the official charity.
The team celebrating the recovery of their family thereafter suffered a loss that not only hit them but the whole entertainment industry, Zara Gretti, a promising upcoming artiste died from her long battle with multiple sclerosis, she was 28yrs old. Redbox Ltd. decided to take the event further and not only celebrate stroke victims but celebrities and survivors of the public have fought any terminal ailment and survived. Four prominent and well-recognized celebrities who fought terminal diseases will be nominated and 4 members of the public as well.
Redbox are not looking to make profit but help other people especially families who are still in hospitals and can’t afford care.
Sponsors such as the National Broadcasting Commission, Spine Fixed in Abuja (SFIA), BodyShop Nigeria, Juice Place, Quick Medical Consults, Project Lush, iBlend PR, Designer’s Market Place (DMP), Vanilla restaurant and Lounge and Easy Taxi have seen their dream and efforts and have given gift vouchers etc. for winners of their social media competition and the charity run which will hold on August 30th at Jabi Lake. Anyone can register for the charity run at a price of N1000 at the event or DMP at City Park, August 2nd and will be awarded a certificate of participation and a badge. Attendance at the event is free. There will be games, food, laughs, comedic and musical performances. Stands in order to sell goods, food, services are going for N10,000.00. There are many prizes to be won from luxury massages to a free taxi ride whenever you need it and accommodation for 2.
