Wizkid At 30: Charting His Top 20 Songs of All Time


Number one African Starboy, Ayodeji Balogun, who we all know as WizKid hits the big three zero today! Yes, Wizkid is 30 years old and he sure has come a long way in his musical career.

Since launching onto the music scene in 2008 with the bubbling under single, ‘Mamiwata’, and shooting into the limelight with 2010’s “Holla At Your Boy”, Wizkid has gone from a Nigerian superstar to an African legend and now an International icon.

Over the past decade, the Starboy Wizkid has succesfully garnered international recognition, features, awards and even a song with Beyonce.

With his smash hit singles, top tier collaborations, and awards it is undeniable that Wizkid is one of the greatest African artistes of all time.

As we celebrate Wizkid at 30th, let’s look back at his top 20 songs of all time in no particular order.

1. Don’t Dull

If you have been a member of the Wizkid fan club since day 1 you definitely know that this song was a total vibe. This wasn’t the song that brought Wiz into the spotlight yet it was unarguably his first huge club hit. Don’t dull legit became a street slang all across the country. Shout out to Samklef for that fire beat!

2. Holla at Your Boy

If you see me drive by…Holla at your boy! Everybody and their grandmother legit vibed to this hit track off his debut album, SuperStar. 10 years after and it’s still a jam!

3. Love My Baby

A classic love song off his 2011 Super Star album.

4. Say My Name

Another hit off his Super Star album. The Young Machala predicted his greatness and here we are today steady saying his name.

5. Pakurumo

From owning the club dance floor to completely taking over wedding dance floors, WizKid’s Pakurumo also released in his 2011 album, Super Star became a main stable for weddings in Nigeria and the video totally killed it.

7. Dance for Me

This song was off the E.M.E album and a total party hit back in the day.

8. On Top Your Matter

Another wedding jam, On top your matter was the 2nd single from Wiz’s sophomore album, Ayo.

9. Azonto

In 2013, Wiz jumped on a viral Ghanaian dance routine and created a jam worthy banger!!!

10. Jaiye Jaiye

What is a list of top WizKid songs if you do not mention Jaiye Jaiye? The lead single off his sophomore album, Ayo which was produced by Sarz was pure Afro beat magic and employing the sounds of Afrobeat legend, Femi Kuti (son of Fela)? Pure genius!!!

11. Caro

In 2013, WizKid started floating his own imprint, StarBoy, and one of the first singles to come out of that was Caro which featured L.A.X and Wizkid himself.

12. The Matter

Another product of his StarBoy imprint, The Matter, actually credited to producer Maleek Berry was a highly infectious jam that we totally fellin love in the year.

13. Ojuelegba

The song you have probably been waiting for, the official Wizkid FC national anthem. This was one of the songs that gave Wiz that international spotlight he surely deserved. It was so good Drake and Skepta had to drop a verse on it. Ojuelegba told the story of Wizkid’s humble beginnings and it sure brought us closer to the superstar.

14. Show You The Money

Another song to celebrate his roots and just have some fun…the video was shot on location in the exact same hood that Wiz grew up in and it definitely was a party jam.

16. Come Closer

We are still are mad at Drake for not showing up in not one but two music videos for this song. Yet, we can’t deny that this was and is still a jam and the videos celebrating African Culture? Total fire!!!!

An evergreen club banger!!!

18. Fever

Everywhere stew…This was the jam that got us asking if Wiz and Tiwa were possibly in an entanglement. The duo who have some great songs together surely got us talking with this one.

19. Brown Skin Girl

…ya skin just like pearls. We were filled with so much excitement when it was announced that Wiz had a song with American singer, Beyoncé. Wiz surely delivered on this one and we couldn’t be any prouder.

20. Joro

After a brief hiatus and constant promise of an album Wiz blessed us with Ghetto Love and then followed it with another club hit, Joro which had more success compared to the former.
