Veteran Musician Victor Olaiya Laid to Rest


Victor Olaiya, Nigeria’s veteran highlife musician, has been laid to rest.

He was interred in Ikoyi, Lagos at the Vaults & Garden Cemetery.

Premium Times reports that it was a private ceremony with family and a few friends.

In a bid to observe the governments rules on COVID-19, guests wore face masks and observed social distancing to reduce the spread of the virus.

The late music icon died on February 12, at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos.

He was 89.

Known as a renowned trumpeter who played in high life style, he was famous in the 1950s and early 1960s.

He was once described as “The Evil Genius of Highlife.”
