It is no news that Canadian Rapper Drake has been at war with the Grammy Awards. Most recently, he withdrew his own Grammy Nominations. The Focal point of this read, however, is Drake’s Grammy Acceptance Speech from 2019 and why it is important.
Recall that Drake had withdrawn his pair of 2022 nominations for Certified Lover Boy (Best Rap Album) and “Way 2 Sexy” (Best Rap Performance). Drake has been at war with the Grammys for a while now, his Grammy-winning statistics may pose a reason for this war.
He’s been nominated 47 times and won four–two for “Hotline Bling,” one for “God’s Plan,” and another for Take Care.
In 2020, Drake was outraged that The Weeknd’s After Hours did not receive any nominations, and wrote a lengthy message on Instagram, urging the creation of a new awards body to challenge the Grammys. He said:
“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after.”
The one we are sha touching today is when he won in 2019. Drake got on stage that night and called music “an opinion-based sport,” saying that the awards do not necessarily go to the most deserving acts.
According to him:

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Last Night, the 64th Grammy Awards was held. There were high hopes for Wizkid who was nominated in 2 categories. Wizkid lost those categories by the end of the night.
Wizkid lost the Grammy because a group of people sat and voted and in their opinion, he didn’t win the award (According to Drake’s Analogy)
However, we all know that Wizkid was a winner last night. Afrobeats won. The moment Afrobeats was nominated, the moment Wizkid performed in London, in Puerto Rico and Multitudes Sang along with him; HE WON.
And he might not have taken the Plaque but everybody knows it!
It was another person’s opinion…we all know our heroes!
