Google Lists Buga, Peter Obi, ASUU, And Others As Top Trends In First Half Of 2022


The first half of 2020 had been interesting, with high profile deaths, politics, and personalities among other things, according to Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communications and Public Relations Manager, Google West Africa.

According to Mr. Kola-Ogunlade, these trends and searches are a result of notable developments and events that people were interested in. He claimed that Peter Obi, Vladimir Putin, and Bianca Ojukwu were the top three trending figures in Nigeria for the first half of the year.

The manager identified Peter Obi as a politician and businessman from Nigeria who formerly led Anambra State as governor from 2006 to 2014.


He claims that the majority of Nigerian students at public tertiary institutions are affected by the current strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).The communication manager cited the five-month absence from school as another major internet trending topic in Nigeria.


Senegal’s victory over Egypt in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) football competition’s championship game put it at the top of the list of searches between January and June, according to him.


According to him, Kizz Daniel‘s song Buga with Tekno was the most popular track throughout the time period under consideration.
