A high court sitting in Abuja, FCT, has dismissed a suit against top Nigerian entertainers and social media influencers.
The judge, Justice Bello Jawu, delivered his ruling on Friday, 2nd July. He also stopped the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and Mr Okeke from taking any further steps in prosecuting the defendants.
Human rights activist, Kenechukwu Okeke, filed a suit against Davido, Tiwa Savage, Aisha Yesufu, Falz, Pastor Sam Adeyemi, and 47 other celebrities and activists for their activities during the October 2020 #EndSARS protests.
According to Mr Okeke, the defendants promoted the protest. In the suit, he alleged that the defendants acted in a manner “with intent to assist in the promotion of an unlawful assembly under the guise or composition of #EndSARS”.
The #EndSARS protest rocked the nation as youths took over the street to demand the scrapping of a deadly police unit, SARS, and also demanded good governance.
While the protest lasted for days, the Nigerian government came to its knees and scrapped the deadly unit.
However, in October 20, 2020, the Nigerian Army deployed soldiers who later shot and killed some protesters.
