Emmanuel Adebayor Stripped Of Captaincy of Togolese National Team

Tottenham striker, Emmanuel Adebayor, has been stripped of the captain’s armband for the Togolese national team. It seems like his family issues, and the way he aired it out to the public didn’t sit well with the Togolese manager, Tom Saintfiet.

Togo manager Tom Saintfiet stripped Adebayor of the captaincy after he was late to squad practice on the morning of their opening Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia. Adebayor scored the match winniing goal.

A clearly unhappy Adebayor had this to say about his removal as captain of the national team, hinting that he might end up retiring from international football.

“For now, I don’t know [if I’ll play in September] – I’ll be here and I’ll talk with the coach. I need to know whether he really needs me in the team or not. I have been the captain for seven or eight years and then one morning I’m told I won’t be the captain – that means that we can go to Djibouti and he will put me in the stands.”

Adebayor is never one to mince words when it comes to how he feels, and it’s clear that he’s not happy about it. But then, being a team player is what football is all about right?

Moreover, Adebayor seems like he’s still living the life as he was seen here recently with a $400,000 Rolls Royce chilling with WizKid.
