Canadian rapper Aubrey Drake Graham popularly known as Drake has recently withdrawn his Grammy Awards nomination.
According to Variety, a source had revealed to them that the artist and his management had withdrawn his two “major category” Grammy Award nominations.
The reason for his action is yet to be confirmed.
Drake’s recent album “Certified Lover Boy” was nominated for Best Rap Album and his hit track “Way 2 Sexy” featuring Future and Young Thug, was nominated Best Rap Performance.
The Grammy website is expected to update the list, removing Drake’s nominations as soon as possible.
The Grammy’s will not be naming another artist or project in Drake’s stead as it had done in November 2021 when it decided to expand the top four categories from eight to 10.
Last month the Grammys received criticisms for the expansion, which explained that having ten nominees in each big four-category was to “cast a wider net, make room for more artists and genres from music’s expansive and diverse landscape, and to embrace the spirit of inclusion.”
Drake has been a staunch critic of the Recording Academy in particular as he calls it out for not honoring true talent in spite of the evidence present.
Last year, he held no punches as he publicly called for artists to replace the Grammys with “something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come”.
