Burna Boy has just dropped his 5th studio album, Twice As Tall (you can stream here), and we’re already gunning for Album Of The Year at the Grammys. That’s word to the executive producer of the album, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.
The album features the likes of Senegalese legend Youssou N’Dour, Naughty By Nature, Kenyan afro-pop band Sauti Sol, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, U.K. rapper Stormzy as well as production from Timbaland, Mike Dean and more.
Burna Boy narrowly missed out his first ever Grammy Award this year when he lost out to African legend, Angelique Kidjo. This time around though, Diddy wants Burna to aim higher. In his words, “You know you’re going for album of the year, you feel me, not going for no African…” On a chat with New York Times, Diddy also stated categorically, “I’m on record that I like hit records. If they’re not hit records, I don’t like them.”
Over the last few months, despite the distance and Coronavirus crisis, Burna and Diddy have been working together via Zoom meetings, and file sharing. You can definitely hear Diddy’s imprint over the whole album.
We’ll be here rooting for Burna all the way, and so will the 200+ million citizens of Nigeria.
