#BeingFemaleInNigeria Trends Worldwide As Nigerian Women Discuss Gender Discrimination

Nigerian women today took to twitter to call out the discrimination they face in Nigeria, and what started out slowly ended up engulfing the whole twitter a few hours later, and trended worldwide by time the day was over.

It all started from a tiny book group and ended up with thousands of women and men discussing gender discrimination in Nigeria.

Here are some of the tweets that got some serious traction:

Apparently the conversation was sparked by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s essay “Everyone Should Be a Feminist,” which is an adaptation of her famous TED Talk. This is the same speech that was, which was sampled by Beyoncé in her single, Flawless.
