Yes, I know this is delayed. Sorry people. But better late than never right, so let’s get into it (a whole 3 days late).
This week we’re reviewing songs with similar styles, but both from well known artists in Nigeria, Seyi Shay & May D. Make we begin.
Seyi Shay – Murda ft. Patoranking & Shaydee
I’ll raise my hand and say I always thought Seyi Shay was overhyped, and in all honesty I could never get myself to really feel any of her songs. Irawo, Ragga Ragga were both average at best. But this new joint, Murda, from her has possibly made me a believer.
From the beat from Dokta Frabz, to Seyi Shay’s “flow” to Shaydee and Patoranking doing their thing, the song blends outstandingly well. Seyi Shay’s flow is clean, comes as the perfect ying to Patoranking’s yang. The use of familiar lyrics “Don’t know what you’ve got till its gone” makes the first time listening experience even more enjoyable.
I normally have something to say about what I don’t like about a song, but it escapes me on this joint. With the right push this song could easily be one of the jams of the year.
May D – All Over You
May D returns with this track, All Over You, as his first song of 2014 after a pretty successful 2013 by most standards.
The song has a very similar beat pattern to Dancehall artist Rupee’s Tempted to Touch, and comes off almost as a lowkey remake of the song. The first verse even starts off just like Tempted to Touch starts off, but eventually finds its own way.
I’m never a fan of songs that sound like other songs, but May D kind of made it work on this one. At least to keep me listening through it, and feeling it. I don’t know if I’ll add this to my playlist though, and I’m not sure if it’s the hit track for May D in 2014, but with these things you just never know.
Overall though it’s no more than a bit above average.
That’s all folks. Drop a comment please. I like to see them and find if I know what I’m doing. Kinda 😀
