Two To Review: Jesse Jagz & Charlie X – Aint Nobody Remix + Mavins – Adaobi

We’re back again this week to jump on and review 2 joints from the last week or so. I know I’m a day late but no vex. These days are trying times. Let’s get right into Two To Review without too much story.

Jesse Jagz & Charlie X – Aint Nobody Remix ft. Tesh Carter

From the word go on this song, the beat from DJ Charlie X hits you with some serious. Not entirely sure if the beat is sampled or not but it’s ridiculously sick. Sounds like something from an 80s computer game.  The original of the song is featured on Jesse’s album Royal Niger Company, but you’d be tempted to think this is the better version.

Jesse Jagz’s verse doesn’t change at all from the original version, and neither does Tesh Carter’s hook contribution, so our thoughts about the original stay the same in that department. Jesse Jagz didn’t necessarily have his best lyrical showing but it’s decent enough to keep the song on a good level with lines like “Sweet loving but she didn’t more, shorty we at war, this house is darfur“, and due to the less complex beat you hear his verses clearer on this version.

Overall this remix is all about that beat switch from Charlie X. A good look would’ve been to add a verse from Tesh Carter, but it’s okay. We’ll take it as it is.

Mavins – Adaobi ft. Don Jazzy, Korede Bello, Dija & Reekado Banks

Barely a month after their smash single, Dorobucci, the Mavins return with another single, Adaobi, but this time it’s with their freshman class, Korede Bello, Dija, and Reekado Banks.

After the extreme euphoria caused by Dorobucci, the follow up single was always bound to be a judged by very high standards. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to those standards but by no means is it a bad song. It just really doesn’t compare.

The production from Don Jazzy is good, even though the song gets a bit generic as it goes on; like your classic high tempo, highlife tune. The verses from Korede Bello, Reekado Banks and Dija are all decent, but I kept searching for a line I could hang on to as the catch phrase for the song and couldn’t get one. Dija’s “formula” lines might be the closest, even though I’ll say Reekado had the best verse.

Overall it’s a good song. On its own, it’ll be a nice single to vibe to, but coming from Dorobucci it’s a stepdown. If Dorobucci is a 10/10, then this falls short at a 7, which isn’t bad.
