Top 20 Hottest Nigerian Artists of 2014 | #15-11

Today is day 2 of our countdown of the Top 20 Hottest Nigerian Artists of 2014.

If you haven’t been following, you can catch up by checking out the post from yesterday, and see who made the list from 20 down to 16:

Numbers 16-20

15. Flavour

First off we’re not including Flavour’s surprise album, Thankful, as part of the criteria to judge him this year since it came pretty late in the year. Rather we’re going to with the impact of some singles from his previous album, Blessed, more especially Ada Ada, Black Is Beautiful and Shake. I dare you to name one wedding where “Ada Ada” was not one of the major songs of the day. It really has to be the wedding song of the year 2013 & 2014.

Putting out videos for those songs in 2013-2014 really carried the songs well into 2014. Throw in his pre-album single, Wake Up, with Wande Coal and numerous solid features including the highly popular, Authe with Phyno. It’s hard not to include Flavour as one of the artists of the year.

14. Oritse Femi

Oritse Femi went from relatively unknown to being of the most popular names in Nigerian music this year. Even though he’s had about 3-4 albums under his belt already, he rose to major prominence this year with his smash hit Double Wahala. Along with that came other heavy singles, Sexy Ladies with Davido, Want It with Shatta Wale, Double Wahala Remix with Dbanj and numerous features on other artists songs. You’d be tempted to say Oritse Femi was probably one of the most sort after artists in terms of features.

It’s hard to think of 2014 without thinking Oritse Femi. And you get the feeling there’s a lot more to come.

13. Reminisce

Around this time last year, Reminisce released his sophomore project, Alaga Ibile, and really started getting mad respect as not just one of top Yoruba speaking MCs in the game, but one of the best all round. The album had heavy spinning tunes, Eleniyan ft. WizKid, Daddy with Davido, and Government ft. Endia and Olamide. To go along with the album cuts, he put out the solid street single Tesojue (which is personally one of my favs), and a host of outstanding features including the blazing hot Ise Yen with ace producer Sarz.

Reminisce has generally been hot all year round. Videos, features, and the likes – with solid quality if I might add – Now everyone is now putting right up there with the best MCs this side of the continent.

12. Iyanya

Iyanya (4)

Iyanya stays super relevant year in year out. Either by his music, or his showbiz antics. This year his music has spoken for him in major volumes. He hasn’t put out a solo album, but his singles, Mr Oreo, Lekwa Ukwu and Away have been some of the best party songs you can get in the country.

His music tends to sound alike, but when in the club it’s about the catchiest thing you’d want to hear. Iyanya seems to have found his niche, and is milking it to the max. This year he has done so very well. It also helps when you add great dance moves to the songs.

11. Sean Tizzle

Sean Tizzle took his red hot momentum from 2013 straight into 2014 and dropped his debut album, The Journey – which by the way got a lot of good reviews. The album spurn a few more hits Take It, and Perfect Gentleman along with the others that were already putting him on the map.

All in all 2014 has been a good year for Sean Tizzle, and the Headies Next Rated win late last year has proved to be a solid indicator of what he was bound to do and did in 2014. Kudos.

That’s all for today folks. Be sure to check back tomorrow for the continuation (10-6).

Who do you think will be in the top 10?
