New Music: X.P – Break Back Ft. Ruggedman + Boogie Down Ft. Wyse

Check out brand new joint upcoming artist XP. Break Back is a hot joint that features Rap veteran, Rugged Man. Pretty dope track. On the flipside Boogie Down brings a more partyable joint with Alapomeji’s own, Wyse.

Both songs are solid and easy to love.

The artist you know today as XP was actually christened Olumide Okelola and he is from Oyo State, Nigeria. He was born into a polygamous home but his mother had to raise him alone after a painful separation from his dad when baby XP was barely 2 years old.

He had his fair share of challenges while growing up. He started his primary education in Ibadan and completed secondary education in Lagos. He had to pull out of Lagos State University in his second year but settled for an IT certificate from Karrox.

XP may have had a dramatic childhood/upbringing but this did not stop his love for music. As a teenager, he was cutting jingles for Radio and DJs, which helped him provide for himself. His journey continued with a group called PRETTY THUGS & 9TIN under EDGE Records that also housed acts like 9ice and Jahbless amongst others. However, the group broke up, giving him an opportunity to roll solo.

XP, an acronym for ‘Explicit’ became his appellation due to his fierce and diverse lyrical prowess. His wordplay and staunch dedication to the art earned him a lot of respect from his colleagues and other HipHop Heads at the time and till date.

He featured alongside Reminisce and Six O on “Bachelor’s Life” off 9ice’s hit Album ‘Gongo Aso’. He was also on Reminisce’s song titled “Gbabe” with late Dagrin. His debut single and video “Calabar Lonishan” featuring Reminisce, produced by Sarz is still as hot as served and fans would have heard others like “Beauty N Brains (Double B’s)” featuring OBIE and “U Dunno”.

He credits the western music inflow as one of his influences, listening to good music and God who has seen him through his rough times. His role models include Busta Rhymes, Mos Def, Nas, Mob Deep, 50 Cent, Eminem, Tribesmen, Ruggedman… he says, “Put all of them together and you’ll get XP”

XP recently signed a record deal with K N K ENTERTAINMENT and his upcoming album titled, ‘THE WESTERNER’ is in its final stage. According to him, “Fans should expect a fusion of English, Pidgin and Yoruba… the album will be dynamic in an amazing way”
