“L.A.S.G.I.D.I. [Gidi Anthem]”, the young hustler’s tribute to the ever-chaotic city of Lagos, West Coast Nigeria, is the lead single off Jasën Blu’s début album, which is being
compiled under his record production and lifestyle imprint, Block47. Written, produced and engineered by Jasën Blu himself, the track speaks in a hippy, yet classic way of the diversity
in character of the Nigerian former capital ranging from its rowdy, fast, constantly chaotic and often-times violent nature to its riches, opportunities and natural allure. Style-wise, the
basically mid-tempo R&B track employs the rhythmic bounce of the late ’90s hip-hop, largely dosed with the warm, brass-laden flow of Fela’s Afrobeat. Jasën Blu being the retro-minded
kind of musician, makes it a point to blend an old-styled background to the new school with his soft, intricate vocal persistence, bouncy flow and rhythmic chants better Lagosified by the
dramatic voices of Lagos bus drivers/Agberos arguing and hollering randomly in the background throughout the song. All these made this track a truly interesting listen, in a unique way.
