Born in the eighties, Timi Da Black one (real name Dr Timileyin Akinmuda) was a member of Da Trybe, the hip-hop collective responsible for that smash hit of the early 2k’s ‘Oya’ whose hook was actually written and performed by him. He had caught the eye of Eldee the Don who was initially skeptical about signing on a medical student but upon seeing Timi’s star potential at a campus show had a re –think of his previous decision and promptly scooped the budding rapper up.
Under the Trybe records imprint, Timi would score major hits of his own with ‘Na Flash’ and ‘Lem Tight’ but wasn’t able to complete his album project before Eldee left for the states. Using his meager resources and limited connects he would complete an album worth of material that would become Na Flash the Album. Rigors of getting a medical degree would take their toll and coupled with pressures and threats from his professors in school, Timi would have no choice but to hold off any ideas of a career in music till further notice. Now a full fledged dentist Timi feels the time is right to take another stab at his passion: Music.
Armed with two new singles: ‘the very personal ‘Where you dey?’ which serves to mark his return – so I say yeah, I been dey hibernate/ I know e don tey but now I don wake as well as silence the voice of the dissenters -where you been dey when I been dey here/ yeah I know where una dey day-care all over a mellow beat from ace producer Sosick and the percussion led hilarious ode to the female derriere’ ……. Police’ produced by IKON, giving fresh life to a style perfected by the trybe/ trybesmen , Timi is set to take the music bull by the horns once again. Work is already underway on a yet to be titled album scheduled for release in the later part of the year.
