throwback nigerian songs

Hard to believe looking at the songs below that it’s been 10 years since some of us were rocking to these tracks. 2005 is arguably when the new generation of Nigerian music, and it’s amazing to see how far the industry has come. Even more amazing is the fact some of these artists below are still very significant. 10 years later.

P-Square – Bizzy Body

P-Square oh… See See…We run things… Things no run we… LOL. I mean who can forget those ultimate cheezy lines that got us hooked. Classic! I still remember that this video was shot at Club Makumba is Jos.

Styl-Plus – Olufunmi

Before all the love songs now, Olufunmi by Styl-Plus was one of the go to love songs in 2005. And it rocked at weddings, clubs, naming ceremonies, birthday parties etc. Ultimate classic. Wonder where they are now.

2face – African Queen

Do we really need to explain this one? Even European, Asian and american men had themselves singing this song craving for an African Queen. Thank You 2face.

Sunny Nneji – Oruka

I rocked in 2003 when it was released, rocked in 2004, 2005, 2006 and in many weddings still rocks today. However between 2004 and 2006 was when it was just everywhere, almost to a sickening point. But I still love it.

Dbanj – Tongolo

Do you like the Koko? With that line Dbanj and his Koko brand were born, and will continue well into 2015. This tune was just too fresh any way you look at it, and unlike others, it had that spicy harmonica melody to it. Oh and Don Jazzy was there… again.
