Let’s get right into it, shall we? Here are the best and worst looks from the just concluded Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards
5. Isio Wanogho
Black is a great colour to wear on the red carpet because it contrasts against red very nicely. However, the beauty of dresses is really hard to read when they are black, so that can be the challenge. This dress though, is beautiful, and it CAN be seen. She definitely didn’t go unnoticed. Hair and accessories are just perfect as well. The only thing I would change about this dress is make it mono strap. The busy shoulder compliments the bottom of the dress nicely, and so I would take off the right shoulder completely. But this is an awesome number. She looks beautiful!
4. Cynthia Kamalu
Sometimes less is more and this is a perfect example. This is such a simple yet elegant dress. Two more inches of her exposed chest would have taken the dress from classy to trashy real quick but it remains sophisticated. The bottom half has the perfect amount of shine and her hair and accessories are not over done. This was truly one of the best looks on the red carpet and she didn’t even try too hard. We see you Cynthia!
3. Toke Makinwa
It is not news that Toke Makinwa never disappoints on the red carpet. She’s definitely one to look out for and her stylist should be one to reckon with. This number stays close to traditional and still takes the win over majority of the dresses that walked the carpet. The busy top in combination with the sleek bottom makes for a smooth flowing dress that’s easy on the eyes. And that slit? Perfection. Wearing her hair up exposed the beauty of the bodice. Make up is on point and I cant but half the time that’s a good thing. Beautiful Toke, Beautiful!
2. Ruth Kadiri
This dress is e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. I absolutely love that it’s lace. The style, the shape, the cut, the fit and most importantly the tailoring are all impeccable. Two things I dislike however are her hair and shoes. The hair is just off and I would have opted for solid colored shoes due to the detailing on the dress. All in all, this was a great choice for Ruth, you worked it girl!
1. Genevieve Nnaji
This. Is. BAE! I don’t need to say too much, this is perfection to the T. She’s doing it better than some who came before her and many coming behind. Personally, I wouldn’t choose a mustard dress but she makes this work in every way possible. Everything is flawless. Definitely the best dressed of the night, she slayed it!
5. Omoni Oboli
If I had to choose one word to describe this look, it would be tacky. This looks like a dress from the kids version of project runway. The tailoring is poor and the fit is slightly off. I believe the material is responsible for a good percentage of this failure and the colors make her look like an uneven bumblebee. I would make a comment about the hair but the naturalisters will come for me so imma just be quiet! I really do like Omoni but this was a miss.
I never thought we would make use of the inner curtains at my grandma’s house but this is a pretty decent transformation. Actually scratch that, mosquito net maybe? I’m not sure how this emerged as her winning look. I’m still trying to figure out if this dress is a halter or not but whichever way, the bodice is too sheer. What I will say though is that she looks fierce and wears it with confidence. Her jewelry is beautiful but yeah, that’s about it.
3. Eucharia Anunobi
I don’t even know where to start with this; she looks like that hustling aunty of the bride at a traditional wedding. What is on her head? Last award season, it was Victoria Kimani with a weird headgear and now this. I can’t shout, then… when will she stop with the weird make up? Eyebrows are definitely not on fleek! All in all, this ensemble is way too busy and not well executed. I understand that she is no longer “young” but there are looks that can make you graceful on the red carpet even with age. Then again, she never really brings it on the red carpet so this isn’t a surprise; Sigh. I guess this is just…Eucharia
2. Susan Peters
What’s with the horrible headpieces? And what are those shoes? But for this look, that’s even secondary. To begin with, the main dress looks like a restaurant tablecloth accessorized with a chopped off wedding dress. This is way too many misplaced ideas in one look. If the bags under her eyes are any indication of the effort put into this look, then it is pretty evident she tried too hard. At her movie premier last year, she stunned in a jaw dropping black number which made me expect so much more but alas, here we have it, Susan Peters Ladies and Gentlemen!
1. Yvonne Ekwere
FIX IT JESUS! That is all.
