The United Sounds Of Africa Tour Diaries By iRoking [Part 1 – Atlanta]

First night on tour is always a big one – where everyone hopes and prays that all the rehearsals and practice comes good. And it did – what a night DJ Fully Focus was djing throughout the night in Atlanta at the Centre Stage venue, with a busy crowd giving the place a great buzz.

Show opened by Zara (iROKING signed Atlanta based singer/song writer), Zewdy, Victoria Kimany and the Tour Band before J Martins came on stage to rapturous applause. The night was incredible – some real stand out performances, although big love and extra special kudos to Zewdy, who wowed us all with some traditional Ethiopian/Eritrean dance steps.

J Martins performed some classics such as Jukpa Remix, E No Easy Eh (PSquare) – he produced a lot of P Square songs pre Invasion album, so the combination worked seriously well. His performance was definitely emotional, culminating with him falling to his knees by the end to thank God. The crowd was with him for the whole thing. It was deep.

Samklef perfomed next, lashing out hits such as Billa Lomo and the massively popular Molowo Noni (ft Wizkid, D’Prince, Ice Prince). He performed himself, without the featured artists sporadically jumping into the audience to dance with fans. He enjoyed and really worked the energy he got from the fans.

And it wouldn’t be an opening night without some drama – and it came from star of the show, 2Face. Heavily delayed at JFK airport, this guy literally landed on the tarmac then jumped on stage to a massive standing ovation, belting out hits such as African Queen and new stuff from his newly released Away and Beyond album such as Dance in the Rain, Rainbow and Ihe Neme. Like a true performance pro 2face wowed the audience with his live set supported by the band. Forget the drama of getting there – the drama was his performance – compelling, bold, intense.

Also in the building – Timi Dakolo, Brymo, Jesse Jags and Ice Prince. They were enjoying the show and will be performing elsewhere on the tour. And there will definitely be another Molowo Noni performance with Ice Prince live in person in Washington DC. All are super excited to be on this iROKING USA Live nation tour across the United States and are hoping some extra tour stops will be added.

So that was the first night – and now we’re back on the road. After 10 hours, the whole gang are now in Washington with the iROKING team in tow.
