Lights, Camera, Africa Unite… Africa International Film Festival, 1st Edition | Port Harcourt, Nigeria

AFRICA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (AFRIFF) is a world class indigenous film festival to be celebrated annually in Port Harcourt, Rivers State Nigeria starting this year (2010), from the 1st – 5th of December. It will be a platform for the world to zoom in on the talent and beauty of Africa through film, hosting both local and international filmmakers, celebrities, actors, producers, directors, film buyers, distributors, visual artists, film students, amateurs, film lovers and the press.

AFRIFF’s 1st edition theme is “Africa Unites.”

It draws on the principle that being African is a bond that goes beyond geography, birth or lineage; as people of African origin are spread across the globe and Africa is also a proud home to many non-Africans. With films Africa will have the power to connect people from around the world, creating common ground hence promoting boundless unity.

AFRIFF presents a unique platform to promote the untapped potential of the film and entertainment sector in Nigeria (and Africa), projecting commitment to art, culture and more specifically the film industry.

The Festival program comprises of:

· Film screenings in cinemas;

· A technical training series aimed at enhancing skills as well as raising local industry standards;

· Business sessions and networking events;

· Panels of discussion

· The launch of a unique Film and Equipment Market that will encourage and widen content trade out of Africa and partnerships to reach a global audience.

Categories in competition are:

· Feature, Short, Documentary and Animation

The call for entries has now been extended to the 23rd of August 2010.
