Korede Bello – Mungo Park

korede bello Godwin7

Korede Bello sticks with his winning formula and sound on his latest hit, Mungo Park. But unlike his 2015 hit Godwin, this one hits on folks have issues making key life decisions. It’s a hit for general masses in Nigeria for sure.

Tekno – Where (Prod. By Selebobo

Release Date: March 4th

Tekno’s new hit is in line with what we’ve been getting from him over the last few years. A dance track that does the job for the parties and celebratory times, and that’s it. Where is just as good as any of them, and is a tune you should have in your list.

Lil Kesh – Trouble ft. Ycee

Lil Kesh....

Aramide – Love Me ft. Adekunle Gold

Aramide Ft. Adekunle Gold – Love Me (Prod. Tintin)

Release Date: Feb 17th, 2016

In many ways, it’s a dream match up. Two of the best ‘Afro-RnB’ music makers in Nigeria, Aramide and Adekunle Gold put out this lovely love song, Love Me. It’s everything you’d think of when you think of these two individually, and together they didn’t lose their magic. If you’re in the mood for a Nigerian love song, this is definitely for you.

Emma Nyra – For My Matter Remix ft. Patoranking

Release Date: Feb 12th, 2016

Sometimes remixes of good songs end up being very unnecessary and pretty much kinda wack. This is not one of those. When you think of a remix that makes an already nice tune even better, this one should come to mind. Emma Nyra and Patoranking linked up so well in this remix, it makes you think why didn’t they hook earlier. Playlist for dancing time, must have.

MI Abaga – Everything

Release Date: Feb 11th, 2016

In case you haven’t heard yet, MI Abaga is dropping two mixtapes this month; Illegal Music 3, and Young Denzel. So leading up to the release, he’s blessed his fans with the deep hip-hop song, Everything. In many ways it’s the classic MI tune that most of his core hip-hop fans love, and it makes sense that’s a lead up to IM3, and Young Denzel.

2baba – Officially Blind

Release Date: Feb 10th, 2016

2face Idibia changed his name officially to 2baba but really aint sh*t else change. You can even say his music got better with that name change. 2baba is a legend in Nigerian music, but he didn’t have the best of 2015, so when we got this single, Officially Blind, and digested it, we were extremely happy to get our brother back. Officially Blind just could end up on the list of some of our best 2face 2baba songs of the past decade.

Koker – Kolewerk

unnamed (24)

Release Date: Feb 9th, 2016

Chocolate City can really look outside of MI and Ice Prince with Koker on their squad. After his hit single, Do Something, Koker is kinda proving he’s no fluke with this solid dance tune, Kolewerk. To have a hit in Nigeria, you need all the ingredients this song boasts of; Great beat, solid lyrics, and a catch phrase for a hook. It’s already buzzing in clubs.

Skales & Young D – Gum Body ft. Da Les

Release Date: Feb 2nd, 2016

If you’re looking for a tune that’ll get the club jumping all over the continent, look no further than Gum Body brought to us by Skales, producer Young D, and South African hip-hop artist, Da Les. What makes this special? It jumps from minue 1 to minute 4. There really isn’t a dull moment.

Poe – Adore Her ft. Funbi

poe adore her

Release Date: Jan 26th, 2016

Even though it’s originally on The Collectiv3 LP, Adore Her by Poe and Funbi was released as a single early this year. The song is lyrically the best song on this list, and we’ve come to expect that from Poe. Funbi shows off his vocal muscles and you gotta think we should see more from these 2. You know, seeing as they also have the song Sexy Bitch on the Collectiv3 LP.

Omawumi – Play Na Play ft. Angelique Kidjo

Release Date: Jan 18th, 2016

Omawumi struck gold with this tune, Play Na Play. I mean do you know what it means to feature a three time grammy winner on your track? It means you’re up getting up there in the big leagues… the really big leagues. Play Na Play is a song that is more mature than the average Nigerian song out, and honestly it’s a song that’s much bigger than Nigeria. Play Na Play is the kind of song that could end up winning international world music awards.

Eva Alordiah – Kanayo ft. Reminisce & Phyno

Release Date: Jan 17th, 2016

This is slated to be the single leading up to the release of Eva’s debut album, The1960 Album. The song is a bit different from what we get from Eva, but it’s a welcome deviation. Featuring the heavy weights Reminisce and Phyno, Kanayo is definitely in the running for one of the best hip-hop songs of 2016 so far.

Ill Bliss – Nku ft. StormRex & Flavour

Release Date: Jan 16th, 2016

Pick this one out of the lot. Ill Bliss dropped this gem early this year featuring StormRex and Flavour, and it’s one that will stick around for a minute. The combo of Kezy Klef, Ill Bliss, Flavour and StormRex works pretty much to perfection. Anything you want to say about IllyGati, he knows how to package his music, and Nku is proof of that.

Reekado Banks – Oluwa Ni

oluwa ni

Release Date: Jan 15th, 2016

The winner of last year’s coveted Next Rated award, and the source of the all the controversy, Reekado Banks came into 2016 with a lot of pressure on him. So what does he do? Put out this very classic sounding beauty, Oluwa Ni. It’s a slow burner, and grows on you over time. I know it’s one of my favorites this year even if I wouldn’t have predicted it when it dropped.

Humblesmith – Osinachi Remix ft. Davido

Humble Smith - Osinachi Remix Ft. Davido

Release Date: Jan 8th, 2016

The song was released amidst huge drama between Davido, his baby mama, and her uncle Dele Momodu. It ended up being the platform Davido used to sneak diss his baby mama and uncle, but that aside, Humblesmith really has an A+ track in Osinachi Remix. It’s one of the catchiest songs out this year, and it will be remembered for a very long time, not just cos of it’s quality but because of that diss from Davido.

Dbanj – Emergency

dbanj emergency

Release: Jan 7th, 2016

Dbanj is back? It certainly seems that way with the release of this highly infectious tune, Emergency. After having a less than stellar 2015 musically (financially he was still great), Dbanj reminded everyone that he still got it in his locker. This is a song that will be in rotation throughout 2016, and maybe beyond. The base on the beat is to die for seriously.

Saeon – De Be Cypher ft. AT, Poe, Eva Alordiah, Tesh Carter, Ozone & Ycee

saeon de be cypher

Release Date: Jan 6th, 2016

The cypher version of Saeon’s De Be ended up being the best, and arguably the most popular. It was released along with its super dope video, and features an all star cast of AT, Poe, Eva Alordiah, Tesh Carter, Ozone, and Ycee. Heavy hitting bars, sick beat, and general feel good vibe, De Be is one song you definitely need in your playlist.

Lil Kesh – Ibile

Release Date: Jan 4th, 2016

After all the madness of the headies awards at the turn of the year, Lil Kesh capitalized on the heavy buzz, and dropped this solid joint, Ibile. Even if it’s rated as highly as his previous hits, it’s still a solid effort, and one that is already very popular in the streets. For you guys, if you’re a Kesh fan, then this should do you some good.

  1. You should also be listening to KEYBONE. His dope raps have made my Naija 2016 music experience awesome. Your list is nice but i bet you can’t rule him out. He’s on Top too. Superb.

  2. Where is Banky W on this list… Or at least his collabo with Nikki Laoye sef? Your list no complete ooo. Their songs are rocking the airwaves and topping the charts
