Some Nigerian Albums & EPs We’re Excited Would Be Dropping In 2021

1

We are approaching the end of January 2021 and there are lots of things we’re excited about. Top on the list has to be the sheer number of albums that would be released from several Nigerian artistes.

Unfortunately, some albums we didn’t get in 2020 would most likely be released this year. The lineup of artistes dropping their albums is even more exciting as we look forward to the album experience.

Some of the albums would be debuts from new school acts who are doing extraordinary things with their music.

Below are the albums we’re excited about.

Rema

Jonzing World superstar Divine Ikubor better known as Rema has had a fantastic run in the music industry in the past 20 months. The 20-year-old is one of the most bankable musicians of his generation, as his music speaks for him. So far, Rema has only put out three extended plays and a compilation of his best songs. At the moment, the ‘Peace of Mind’ crooner is ripe for his debut album. We are sure we are getting an album from him this year according to his tweet a while ago. Word on the street is that the project would drop in the first quarter of 2021.

Joeboy

All is set for emPawa Africa star Joeboy to release his debut album. A date has been fixed and the album title has been announced. Joeboy calls his debut album ‘Somewhere Between Beauty and Magic’ (SBBM). The date for release is 12th February just before Valentine’s Day. The ‘Baby’ hitmaker released his debut EP ‘Love & Light’ in 2019 and has continued his good run ever since his debut.

The music industry awaits some musical delight from Joeboy as the countdown to the album has already begun.

Mr Eazi

Music entrepreneur Mr Eazi got fans excited a few days ago when he notified them of the third installment of his ‘Life Is Eazi’ album series. While we’re excited about ‘Life Is Eazi’ Vol. 3, the singer says he would drop an appetiser in the form of an EP before the main album drops. Last year, Mr Eazi has been experimenting with his sound fusing in a lot of Latino influence and other crossborder sounds. We’re sure he has learnt a thing or two that would make his next project even more worthwhile.

Peruzzi

Tobechukwu Victor Okoh failed to give us his sophomore album last year, postponing it until 2021. The hype around the album has been consistent over the past few months after hearing new snippets of songs from the project. We actually are also in high anticipation for the ‘Rum & Boogie’ and if we’re going by the snippets, we can tell the album would be fire. We are quite sure that we would get ‘Rum & Boogie’ in the first quarter of this year unfailingly.

Bella Shmurda

The Lagos State University final year student Abiola Akinbiyi better known as Bella Shmurda isn’t slowing down this year. Currently, the ‘Cash App’ crooner is working assiduously on his first studio album. He says the forthcoming body of work would be titled ‘Hypertension’. The project would feature Shatta Wale, Kida Kudz and many more. There is no official date for the album release but Bella has hinted that he might be putting out his next body of work on his birthday. We can’t wait to see what the buzzing music star has in store for us.

Runtown

The Soundgod Music Group boss is long overdue for his sophomore album. However, without waiting for too long again we should be having a Runtown album next month, February. He made the announcement via Twitter while interacting with his fans. The album would be titled first but translated into another language of his choice. So far, Runtown has served the first single from the forthcoming project ‘If E Happen For Lagos’. Another single is expected before we have the actual album.

Teni

The fantastic Nigerian singer was supposed to release her debut album late last year, but due to some challenges it was postponed for clarity. It is a new year and we are quite hopeful Teni would give fans a well deserved album without fail.

Reminisce & Adekunle Gold

Alaga Ibile and AG Baby would be dropping a collaborative album for fans this year. The first single out of their project was released last year titled ‘Toxic’. Their forthcoming album would be a first of its kind, rapper-singer combo. ‘Toxic’ is such a beautiful song and we can’t wait to hear the entire album from these two musicians.

Liya

Just before 2020 came to a close, Davido signed his first female artiste to DMW by name Liya. She went on to drop her first single ‘Melo’ under her new label with some positive reviews. Her boss recently announced that she is working on her debut EP and would be out early this year.

Mayorkun

2020 was fantastic for Mayorkun who dropped back to back bangers throughout that year. He was one of the most featured artistes last year and a nominee for ‘artiste of the year’ by the Headies Awards. Mayorkun’s last album ‘The Mayor of Lagos’ was released in 2018 and at the current time he is due for another album release. Although, he hasn’t made an official announcement yet we are sure of getting a Mayorkun album this year.

Simi

After dropping two albums and an EP between 2017 – 2020, Simi is set for another album in 2021. Her experimental EP (in terms of sound), Restless Vol. II was well received plus she had a huge song ‘Duduke’ too. Over the past few months Simi has told her fans to expect an album from her and she has been giving updates on her journey whilst she records. It would be quite exciting to have another body of work from Simi and we’re excited.

Skales

Skales will be releasing his first album under his music company OHK Entertainment this year. Last year, he gave us an EP ‘Healing Process’. In a recent Instagram post, Skales showed gratitude for how far he has come and the prospect of his forthcoming new album. We are anticipating a surprisingly good body of work from Skales.
