Chike-Ezekpeazu Osebuka, simply known by his stage name Chike is our Jaguda Artiste of the Month for February. The Computer Engineering graduate surprisingly stunned music lovers with his debut album ‘Boo of the Booless‘.
For Chike, his first shot at stardom came on the heels of popular music reality show MTN Project Fame West Africa. As a budding singer, the show offered him a platform for him to express his love for music and most importantly show the audience that he could really sing. Unfortunately, his run on the show ended after he was evicted before the finals.
As a true hustler, Chike moved on from MTN Project Fame West Africa to another music reality show, The Voice Nigeria, in search of more exposure. This time he was the first runner up while losing the number one spot to A’rese. One way or the other these now-defunct music reality shows helped groom Chike to stay consistent and mature his craft as a musician.
A few singles have been released sparingly from Chike after his adventure on the music reality shows. At some point, he delved into acting but he was still keen about making ‘good music’.
Apparently, 2020 seem like the year Chike stepped up the most musically after he dropped his debut album ‘Boo of the Booless‘. The album houses 14 tracks of Afro R&B songs, sang in English, pidgin and his native dialect Igbo.
Arguably, Chike 14-tracker album remains the best project released so far into 2020. The timing for the project was almost perfect released around the Valentines season with an even better title. The singer had time to shine on his debut as he kept the list of featured artistes minimal.
A popular idea in marketing states, “if your product or service is really good, it should sell itself”, could be the reason Chike’s album seems to be the rave of the moment although he isn’t considered an A, B or C-list artiste. The reach of the album has been organic and just maybe the title makes you want to listen and it meets any preexpectations from the listener.
As a statement of its goodness, ‘Boo of the Booless’ became the number 1 album on Apple Music, garnering over a million streams across all digital platforms. The album is still picking up numbers, gaining more exposure and worth telling a friend about.
Needless to say, Chike has started himself on a trajectory to bigger things and that momentum should be sustained. It’s obvious people like his sound all he needs to do is aggressively put himself out there. We shouldn’t wait another half a decade to hear an album from him and those new singles should keep coming at regular interval.
Hey booless ladies out there, Zaddy Chike has volunteered to be a stand-in boyfriend and heartwarming boo. All you probably need to do is listen to his debut album and you’ll be just fine.
