Are Mavin Records Artistes Better Off Working With Other Producers Beside Don Jazzy???

The Don Jazzy-led Mavin Records aren’t as hot as it used to be in 2014/2015. Those years though in the past were the music imprint finest moments. Everyone on the label was popping, it was during these period that the label churned out hits like Dorobucci, Looku Looku, My Darlin’, Adaobi, God Win, Awww etc.

All that transpired in 2014/2015, and the underlying truth is that Don Jazzy had a hand in producing all the above listed singles which were certified hits.

Fast tracking to the present day, 2018 it seems that the Mavin Records artists are better off working with other music producers outside the label.

The reason for the assertion stems from the successes of two of the labels artistes Tiwa Savage and Reekado Banks. Even though the label isn’t as hot as it used to be, it’s clear only Tiwa Savage and Reekado Banks are currently making the record label proud.

A further digging proves that working with folks (music producers)  outside the label is the primary reason their game is still on point.

Just before the demise of 2017 Reekado Banks and Tiwa Savage worked on the hit single ‘Like’. The single which gained wide acceptance was not made by any music producer on the label, not Don Jazzy, Baby Fresh or Altims. ‘Like’ was produced by Del’B with guitar from Fiokee.

Another case would be Reekado Banks hit single ‘Blessings On Me’. Here is another tune that was made outside the convince of Mavin Records. So far the tune is a hit and was produced by Princeton. That again pushes the argument that Reekado Banks can get even bigger and better if he explores sounds from other beatmakers outside Don Baba J or the label.

Tiwa Savage is a whole new subject on this argument. For her highly successful ‘Sugarcane’ EP the mother-of-one worked intensively with Spellz. This year 90 percent of her singles this year have all been worked by same Spellz and none by her label boss.

It’s safe to say that the other artistes on the label might just do better if they move pass the Don to work with other producers.

PS: Johnny Drille is doing amazing on the label too and guess what he takes care of his music production by himself.
