Lauryn Hill graced the stage for the 1oth edition of the annual Black Girls Rock award show which is held to show appreciation of black women, and their accomplishments. It was held at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark last Friday.
Her performance saw her channel her inner Fela Kuti as she performed her hit single, Lost Ones, but laced over the instrumentals of the 1976 popular track by Fela, Zombie. It was definitely a very well composed performance and one that showcases not only L-Boogie’s great talents, but her musical depth as well.[fbvideo link=”https://www.facebook.com/officialblackmedia/videos/1236629903044640/” width=”600″ height=”400″ onlyvideo=”1″]
Last year, Lauryn Hill performed live in Lagos for the first time ever, and pulled a huge crowd of fans.
Black Girls Rock aired on 6th of April on BET and featured performances from Brandy, Audra Day, Monica, Jazmine Sullivan and others. The whole live show was great, but once Lauryn Hill got on, it was a different ball game. Check out some of the reactions on twitter:
If only we knew how powerful African influence is, check at this Lauryn Hill performance… Fela Kuti hints of sound & the dance moves. 👏👏👏
