Former Super Eagles Striker Rashidi Yekini Dead At 48


The rumors were floating all through last night and we can now confirm that the former Super Eagles striker, Rashidi Yekini is dead. He died at a hospital in Kwara state.

Yekini had long suffered from mental illness, and was known to roam around the streets of Ibaban barefoot and talking to himself.

Rashidi Yekini is a sports icon in Nigerian soccer and scored the first ever world cup goal for Nigeria, in the USA 94. He also earned African Footballer of the year in 1993. He totalled 37 goals in 58 games while playing for the Super Eagles.

It’s a sad end to such an eventful life. He is survived by 3 wives and 3 children. May his soul rest in peace.
