Check out one of our favs here on Jaguda, Tonye, as she covers the December edition of fashion magazine, Zen Magazine. She just put out a remix to her single, Criminal with Timaya a few days ago.

2014 is slowing coming to an end. The dust is beginning to settle. The runways of the fashion weeks across the world are all empty. The speeches have all been made. The awards season is over and here I am, sitting in my room being thankful to God for seeing my team and I through.  It has been a challenging year but we have emerged victorious. We close 2014 with a cover on the alluring and musically gifted Tonye Garrick, who in this issue talks to me in a breezy, outdoor penthouse lounge situated in the heart of Victoria Island, Lagos. Over a glass of wine and suya meat, she speaks candidly about being a musician in the 21st century, the evolution of African fashion, and what it feels like to go, almost overnight, from being an unknown singer to a recognized artist in the industry. Zen+Magazine+Karun+Mungai+March Featured Image
Zen Magazine’s March cover features the young and beautiful Kenyan vocalist Karun.
Editor’s Note: I love new beginnings. I love the chance to clean the slate and start afresh, full of hope, belief and with promises to myself that I need to work harder, smarter and happier than ever before. Sometimes, a new month can give you a new perspective and that’s what our March issue is all about; new beginnings. Karun Mungai’s story is one that excites me every time I think about it. Formerly of Kenyan award-winning hip-hop group Camp Mulla, Karun is a soul-stirring singer whose energy, vocals and personality made her loved all over Africa. She is one of the coolest, hottest, and most exciting performers I have had the pleasure and privilege of meeting.

This month, Karun or Ms K as I fondly call her opens up to Zen on a whole new level. From her memories with the group, to her new solo career, she shares her experiences with us, her plans for the future, schooling in America and, we also talk about fashion from African designers. This is a new beginning for Karun – she has so much more to share and we can’t wait to listen to some of her new singles. Also in this issue, we return with a fabulous new editorial submission from Portuguese based photographer Elton Varela titled “Resurrecting  the African origin.” Our brilliant fashion team are done with their reviews of 2 amazing collections from South African fashion label Lalesso and UK based fashion house KOSIBAH owned by Yemi Osunkoya. Much respect to all the African models across the world and this month, we chat with Kenyan model Bianca Koyabe and Cameroonian-born model Armande Meyo, 2 models we see doing great things this year. Making headlines this month in the art world is the 8th Edition of Art Dubai which is poised to be bigger and better than ever before. Art Dubai is the largest and most established contemporary art fair in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia and this year’s event will be breaking all the records in the world of art.

I would love to say a big thank you to everyone who continues to support creativity all over the world. To all the Africans across the globe who continue to press on, strive and motivate others, May God continue to bless you. No career is easy for anyone. But believe this “You are here on earth for a reason.” Even though you may not understand it or see the reason now, let your determination, dedication and motivation take you to the top. Stay blessed and enjoy our March issue. Please do tell us what you think of Karun’s cover by commenting below. Let us know which stories you are itching to read this month.

Zen+Magazine+Nana+Afua+February+2014

Zen Magazine February cover is out and on its cover is the beautiful Ghanian model Nana Afua Antwi, she is the first Ghanian model to win Britain’s Top Model of Colour.

She sits with Zen to talk career, dreams and style.

Editor’s Note : In this month’s Zen, we look at a number of African models who have forged their own distinctive style on and off the catwalk. Nana Afua Antwi is arguably one of the most stylistically individual models of her age, while unarguably remaining one of Ghana’s hottest models.

She is the 1st Ghanaian model to win Britain’s Top Model of Colour and is a BEFFTA Awards Winner for Female Model of the Year in 2011 and Young Achiever of the year in 2013. Her look is seriously impossible to categorise – part fierce, part your girl next door; a glamorous and open-minded individual who loves to learn, create and support everyone around her. I’ve known Nana for almost 5 years, and despite becoming such a great model she has retained her humility, genuine compassion for others and sense of humour. This is definitely going to be one of my favourite covers because I have witnessed Nana’s rise in the industry and I tell you her best is still yet to come. This month, Nana Afua takes us through her amazing journey. A journey filled with pain, joy, love, and hope (while making us laugh, too).

As you know, it’s another packed month on Zen and it’s Valentine month – so this month we talk about it all! We include our list of the Top 10 “African” fashion models in the world, some of the best fashion tips of all time from designer Annerose MUYOMBANO who also takes us through her fashion collection, as well as 10 fun facts you didn’t know about South African superstar TV presenter and brand ambassador Boity.

We love it when our sexy celebrities enjoy fashion and this month, our celebrity style crush is on TV presenter and actress JOSELYN DUMAS and music star THE WEEKND.

If all this isn’t enough to get you hooked on Zen, then allow us to WOW you with our style interviews with 2 of Africa’s most versatile musicians, Manifest from Ghana and Ikechukwu from Nigeria. The amazing thing about Zen every month is we try our best to get our readers stories from all across Africa so whether you are new to Zen or have been an existing reader, there is always something in Zen for you.

It makes me so proud and honoured that so many of you write in, submit articles and sometimes, even sharing details with us you haven’t shared with anybody else. Without all your love and support, we won’t be able to produce a quality magazine that gets completely inside your minds. So please do enjoy this issue. Like every Zen issue, it was written for you our readers so please get back to us by commenting freely on our link below. Tell us what you think of Nana’s cover and which stories you are itching to read this month.

Editor’s Note: OK let’s say you had a chance to document 20 of the most inspirational quotes from 20 of Africa’s hottest designers, would you keep it at just 20 or add a few more? Well, Zen Magazine are proud to announce that for the 1st time ever they have an article that documents inspirational quotes from African designers across the world. This post is meant to educate and inform, it’s meant to be read, shared, appreciated, bookmarked, and whatever you do, please don’t stop sharing it.
