So yesterday there we reports that WizKid & his manager Godwin Tom were were invited by men of the Nigeria Police Force –  Zone 2 Command, Onikan, for an issue with students of the University of Lagos who alleged that they had paid N500,000 for him to perform at a show at the UNILAG Sports Center on May 21st.

According to the group, he never showed for the performance.

We reached out to WizKid’s actual manager, Godwin Tom on the subject, and he confirmed that they were indeed brought in for questioning, but states that the person the UNILAG group paid money to is not him, and they have been scammed. He went further to state that the Emails, phone number, account details were all fake and not those from him or Wizkid.

There has been a wave of scam activities recently in the entertainment industry, and Iyanya has also come out to state that there is a fake manager representing him with fake account details and social media accounts.

Looking back at the case, you know this is a fake because N500,000 seems like a petty amount compared to what we know Wizkid collects for a show.

The University Of Lagos In Akoka has landed in 9th position for Africa.com’s top 10 universities in Africa.

The list was compiled by Africa.com with the following criteria:

First, as with any similar list that determines which universities are “best,” Africa.com collected both quantitative and qualitative data to determine which universities in Africa would make our Top 10 List.

Second, we made a determination to create two distinct lists: a) Africa, excluding South Africa, and b) South Africa. If we were not to have made this distinction, our Top 10 List would be dominated by South African universities, and would not be useful to those seeking a pan-African perspective. At the same time, we wish to acknowledge the strength of South Africa’s many world-class universities, so we decided to dedicate a list that features just South African institutions.

Third, our criteria include the following: 1) undergraduate and graduate school reputation among higher education peers; 2) student selectivity for entering undergraduate class; 3) quality and quantity of faculty research, including depth of research facilities and engagement beyond immediate community, and 4) international student ratio—the degree to which institution draws students from outside of its national boundaries.

Fourth, in addition to collecting quantitative data on the criteria above, we used our extensive network on the continent for qualitative input as a “reality check” to the results that our data yielded. These “reality checks” resulted in some small, but important adjustments to the list.

We are very proud of our list of the best universities in Africa, and hope that it is a useful tool for those who seek a relative comparison of institutions of higher education on the continent.

Interestingly, Egypt came on top with 3 of the best universities in Africa, and University of Ghana came in at 8th. See full list below:

1. Cairo University – Egypt
2. American University in Cairo – Egypt
3. Mansoura University – Egypt
4. Makerere University – Uganda
5. University of Nairobi – Kenya
6. University of Dar es Salaam – Tanzania
7. University of Botswana – Botswana
8. University of Ghana – Ghana
9. University of Lagos – Nigeria
10. Ashesi University – Ghana

The user can create forms – such as curriculum vitae (CV) or résumé submission forms for businesses and coursework submission page for lecturers.

In a statement to the press, The Program Manager, Google, Emeka Afigbo stated: “Our expectation is that this motivates more young Nigerian developers to develop apps that change the way we live in Nigeria and Africa at large.”

The winners win Chromebooks and $20,000 each. They also won a grant worth $18,000 for their school’s department.

This should come as no shocker as ASUU, The Academic Staff Union Of Universities have openly come out stating that they plan to resist the name change of the University Of Lagos to Moshood Abiola University.

Here is a statement from the UNILAG branch chairman, Dr Karo Ogbinaka:

We are resisting it, all the unions and the students will resist it, the Alunmus will resist it. The truth about the whole thing is that it shows the level of intelligence of those people in government. Nobody will change Harvard’s name, nobody will change Cambridge’s name to Winston Churchill University. University of Lagos is a brand, for 50 years. The first university established by Act of Parliament and one man trying to score cheap political point. When people go outside and you ask them what University are you from? What name will you pronounce? They’ll ask is it a new university? Is it the name of a toothpaste? It’s a senseless thing and are going to resist it.”

In addition, the Save Nigeria Group have also expressed concerns over the name change.

Student continue to protest on the streets of Lagos, and have blocked the Third Mainland Bridge, and other major roads in Lagos.

In a very interesting way to start Democracy Day, The president of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Jonathan renamed the University of Lagos to Moshood Abiola University of Lagos in honor of the late MKO Abiola.

The president made the announcement early this morning during The Democracy Day Nationwide address.

So far this hasn’t sat well with students as they are right now protesting outside the school premises and have even moved to Yaba.

What are your thoughts on renaming the university?

Babe dropping some serious yarns
Babe dropping some serious yarns

I’m not even sure where to begin with this video. I’m sure some folks have already seen it but I had to post it on here for those that haven’t or those that just feel like seeing what I have to say about it. This, I must say, is a hot mess and just confirms what I’ve always thought about Unilag babes. Now granted that not every babe that went to Unilag will agree with these babes take on men, sex, and money, but most will agree that it is pretty much regular gist that happens in most campuses in Naija. The babes are pretty much talking about what a good number of babes in naija talk about…. Some serious Aristo levels man. It’s entertaining, and disturbing all at the same time…lol. Check the video out. Thoughts?
