It’s inevitable in music; Some folks will come and some will go. Na turn by turn as they say. It’s a cycle if you will. However every now and then some artists make major comebacks after a few years in hiatus; some successful, and others not so much, but we all love a good comeback story.

Today we’ll be talking about some artists who have been laying low, or completely faded who need to make a major comeback. Why? Because they were really good when they were hot, and we don’t want to believe they just disappeared like that. So here goes:

mocheddah-behind-d-scene-shoot-102-485x600

Mo Cheddah

I think we can all agree that Mo Cheddah is in need of a major comeback for a lot of reasons, but the most important might be to prove to herself and her fans that she can make it without KnightHouse. Ever since she unceremoniously left the label that blew her up, it has been pretty quiet and weak from her. Well… except those 3 joints she released in back in June 2012, but we wont count those are serious things. Or should we?

Either way she needs to make a major comeback because she’s Mo’cheddah Diva Molenu! I mean she cant just bow out like that now.

Styl-Plus

Yes I know, they are from a different era (kinda), but how awesome would it be if Styl-Plus got back together and released an album as great as their first or second albums. Pretty awesome right? With that at least Tunde would stop doing whatever he’s doing (including attacking me on twitter), and they can all make great music like they used to back then. I mean Dbanj, 2face are still in the game so why not Styl-Plus.

djinee

Djinee

Back in 2009/2010 Djinee was unstoppable. He was arguably the best RnB singer at the time, and his songs were all over the place. Be it a feature or his own song, we all looked forward to hearing something from the Benin boy.

Unfortunately things have really slowed down, and the last we heard from his was a single he released last year, and sadly it didn’t make the waves we thought it would. We would love to see Djinee make a major comeback and get back to his 2009/2010 form.

JeremiahGyang

Jeremiah Gyang

Jeremiah Gyang in my opinion is one of the most talented artists of the past 10 years. Back in 2008/2009, Jeremiah Gyang was the hottest thing ever, and before MI and Ice Prince, he was the one holding the torch for J-Town. Unfortunately after he left Chocolate City, things really slowed down for him except his 2012 album release (which didn’t do so well buzz wise).

With the talent he has, he’s definitely due for a major comeback. If not for anything, to school some of these new cats :)

BLAISE

Blaise

Let’s be honest! If Blaise was still holding a mic in her hand, most of the female rappers in the game wont have mouth to talk for real. When it comes to hitting heavy bars, and punchlines Blaise is the Madam At The Top for real. Last we heard from Blaise was back in early 2012, and that was even after laying low for a significant minute. Really we haven’t gotten some serious heat from her in over 3 years.

Blaise please come back! Do us this favor. Even if it’s for one last standing ovation, before you bow out. Signed, Management.

So who do you think needs to make a comeback soon? Someone that was blazing hot once upon a time. Drop a comment or 3.

Like, Share, Tweet and Comment and your life go better.

tunde of styl plus

There were plenty rumors as to why Tunde left Styl-Plus a few years ago, and pretty much confirmed the demise of one of the hottest groups in modern day Nigerian music. Tunde has come to say exactly why it happened.

See statement below:

Why did you leave? I have tried to answer this question in so many diplomatic ways without divulging unnecessary details but then answer has brought out more questions like “why didn’t I work on my solo project and still remain in the group like its being done on the international scene with the likes of Boyz2Men,the Commodores, Destiny’s Child and many more international group acts? Questions flying from all directions have informed me to come out straight to tell it as it is because I need to carry the fans along.

In 2012. I tried taking my clothing company (nativeBoy) ambitions a notch higher by launching it out in Asia and doing a song titled “in your eyes”to support it. It apparently didn’t go down well with the members of my group.

Being in a group involves a whole lot more dynamics than meets the eye due to differences in personalities, goals and expectations. These. differences get more pronounced over time and like old wine become more distinct in taste.
Boy bands were not designed to last forever for boys become men and being a man brings with it more responsibilities and an unction for a definite direction.
I am STYL-PLUS,
I am TUNDE

Well there you have it. The real reason Tunde left the group.

twotoreview2

This week we review two artists at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of momentum gains. While Waje is soaring to greater heights as the year goes by, Tunde (formerly of Styl-Plus) is going through somewhat of a rebranding process after the fall of the group that reigned Nigerian music in the early 2000s.

Let’s get into it.

Waje – Omoni Knowest

The fact that Waje has a wonderful voice has never been in doubt, neither has the ability to try new things. In that respect, I’d say it was a bit of risk going in this direction for Waje in terms of the overall theme of the song, but it paid off big time.

The beautifully put together, but simple E-kelly beat is given the lyrics and melody it deserves from Waje and everything comes together very well. Even more impressive is the strength of Waje’s delivery; often times songs get drown out by the beat and hook, but in this song you clearly get the content of what Waje is trying to deliver. The Fela influence in some parts of the verses drives the song to our sweet spot.

The tune might not be the banger hit track, but it’ll definitely make the list of good songs put out by Waje.

Tunde – Take It Easy

Times do change. In 2004/2005 it didn’t seem like anything that Styl-Plus touched could go wrong, and they deserve all the respect for ushering in the new age of music. With that said, you have to have the ability to adapt with the changing times. Evolve or dissolve, as they say, and it seems that with this new tune, Tunde didn’t quite get that memo.

While this song might (a big might) have worked in 2005 or 2006, it somehow doesn’t work now. The music industry has upgraded so much since then, and this tune is not really going to cut it. You can tell Tunde still has the voice for it, and no one can question the talent, but the beat, the production quality, and the melody are really sub par to be honest. The lyrics are good but gets ruined in the midst of everything.

I really liked Styl-Plus, and nothing will make me happier than seeing Tunde make a serious comeback with a huge tune, but this unfortunately is not it.

So it turns out Styl-Plus are still chugging along despite recent reports that they had broken up. It seems like the remaining 2 members are carrying the name with it, and moving forward.

They release a new single, Tonite as the lead single to an album that is supposed to be released in 2013. Can they get to where they used to be? We’ll have to wait and see.

Remember the group Styl-Plus? Seems like forever right? The R&B group who broke into the music industry few years ago with hit song called “Olufunmi” may have finally gone their separate ways!!

The group who have been on a steady decline since their debut album have not been as successful and their most recent singles did not break waters at all.

Tunde

Today we get news that Tunde Akimsanmi, a member of the group has re-branded himself and has decided to go solo recording several solo tracks and he now goes by the name NativeBoy. He has launched his own record label B.A.T Records and also his website, www.iamnativeboy.com

We’re not exactly sure what the future holds for him, but we definitely wish him the best.

Introducing L-Dafar, apparently he has been in the scene for a Minute, here is Lera, the only music i have heard from him. He brings jarmeu, another good up and coming act to do justice to this song. Lera is one song you will rape the Play Button, Listen Up and share your thoughts..

The highly anticipated classic jam ‘LERA’ is finally out. L-Dafar, who has been known for his lyrical strength decides to take a romantic turn instead this time. He featured the DRS tunes crooner, Jarmeu on this one.LERA was produced by Negizzy, although L-Dafar did a bit of co-production on it. L-Dafar has never disappointed us before and he is definitely still maintaining his position with this new hit after ‘Oghene’ and ‘The Arrival’ freestyle with Johnny Jayce. Download and enjoy…also watchout for ‘The Message’ by L-Dafar.

Brand new track from StylPlus barely a couple of weeks after the release of “On The Dance Floor” which featured Jesse Jagz. StylPlus gained massive international fame from their hit “OluFunmi” and have somewhat struggled to regain that momentum that carried them to the ears of even our grandmothers.

The new joint Ka Fo Lo, is an upbeat tune that should get a good amount of play from the DJs, and on the radio. Produced by TY Mix. Check it out… Enjoy.

Good day to you all! Hope your week is going great!

On Saturday, November 20th, the SoundCity Music Video Awards went down in Lagos, Nigeria. To top it off, celebrities, designers, socialites and music fanatics all came out from all over to impress and oppress! From all the fanfare that was buzzing around twitter that day, I couldn’t wait to see pictures from the event the following week. I will say this, I love jaguda.com but thank God for bellanaija.com because come Monday morning, a page load of red carpet photos were posted for all who cared to see and Lord have mercy did we get an eye full. You know how they say if you don’t have anything good to say then keep that your mouth shut? How about I just write about it. This is where I insert my disclaimer, right? Attention: This post is not about bashing anyone’s personal style, this is more about showing you an alternative way to make an outfit work for you! Lord knows I’d rather have someone tell me truth as to how I look than for them to smile in my face and feed me a blatant lie that I look ‘fabulous’ when in fact, I look terrible.

So I rounded up my top 5 looks I thought could’ve been tweaked and the 4 looks I thought were great! These are all my opinions and you are entitled to your own, so don’t hesitate to let me know that I am talking straight bull! To each his own, right?

Let’s go there!

GT Guitarman Although his kaftan is beautiful why pair it with jeans and sneakers? Guys, I don’t care how ‘different’ you’re trying to be, either wear the matching pant or wear black slacks. [Doesn’t it look like he had trouble getting into his kaftan? Either that or he used too much starch to iron it.] NEXT!

...

Da Bling Lord have mercy! She looks like Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj rolled into one person. Where do I start? First the blonde hair, then the multiple necklaces and the outfit is all WRONG as it does nothing for her shape. All I can say to this is EVERYTHING IN MODERATION because this look is overdone!  [Check out Aunti’s fan] NEXT!

Essence Hmmm I love the color of the dress but that is where the admiration ends. The one shoulder style is obviously still reigning so ladies are trying to find new ways to make it work but this is too long for her frame. If you want to do something like this make sure the shoulder part doesn’t fall past your elbow otherwise you’ll look bigger than you are. See as we can’t even see her frame past all the material. Then the floral print hem makes it looks hella cheap! The flowers at the shoulder are too much for one dress. [Again: EVERYTHING IN MODERATION] NEXT!

Zaaki With the kind of heat we have in Nigeria, I will never understand the need for a cap, as if you are trying to brave the cold in a city like New York! Anyway iridescent/metallic denim is not in style anymore especially as a full matching outfit! If you want to pull off a look like this, choose one, either the jacket or the jeans and wear it with another solid color. NEXT!

Aisha Shaba She’s a beautiful girl so it hurts me to see her in this gown. She needs to fire her tailor. The top of the gown is pretty and even the backless part is nice but why are there only two tiers to your train? It makes it look like you ran out of fabric. I do not suggest a gown with a train for any awards show because people will only step on it. TRUST ME, I know from experience. If you want to accomplish a look like this, go for more tiers on your train or don’t do it at all.

BONUS!

Styl-Plus I love you guys but this is not acceptable. Do not underestimate the power of clothing that fits YOU! Also. if you see that your band mates not wearing hats, why must you be the one to wear one and a baseball cap for that matter. [Let me stop there]

On the flip side we have some that passed with flying colors…

Naeto C gets much respect for this all grey look that I loved. Some may say its too much grey on grey but he was wise enough to wear a black trimmed blazer, white shirt and a darker pair of jeans. Breaking up the consistency of the color grey with another color is always a good idea because grey alone can make an outfit look bland.

This guy Adebayo Oke-Lawal, will probably be looked as a ‘character’ by some men (and women) for wearing all these colors in one outfit but I say he did the DAMN THING. The red & white striped collared shirt under a cobalt blue double-breasted blazer with gold buttons and a pair of khaki pants. Now playing with multiple colors can be disastrous but stripes with solid colors always works. You just have to find colors that compliment each other. Guys if the length of the sleeves and pants bother you then you don’t have to join his club, stick to your regular length and you will still look as good.

Waje! She went the subtle but sexy route. Ladies no one needs to see ALL your goods for you to look sexy! The dress fits her frame and the lace sleeves and turquoise stones at the shoulder add a little something extra for you to see and leaves much to the imagination.

Tiwa Savage made me proud when I saw her! As in she looked divine and hella appropriate compared to some of the ‘prom’ dresses that were present throughout the red carpet. Its an award show not your SWEET SIXTEEN birthday party! The color of her gown, the deep cut on the neckline and the free skirt make this a dressy but casual look.

That’s the list but if you feel like someone else should have been here, let me know! Also, shout out to Bella Naija for the photos! It was pleasure being able to see everyone out and about!

Deuces!

[P.S. Does anyone else find Ikechukwu attractive? I know I do. Okay I’m done!]
