Coincidence?

Just a few days after Reminisce went on a lil spill over being called a “local rapper”, he drops a tune with Olamide and Phyno titled Local Rappers.

In terms of the idea of the song, it’s a solid A+. But we all know it doesn’t end with the idea. The execution has to be on point.

The production, beat and use of that sample in the song by Tyrone is dope. The melody and vibe of the song just as nice.

However the verses from all 3 rappers on the track left much to be desired. Reminisce, Olamide & Phyno are all dope MCs, but collectively this was not their best showing.

Seemed like a lot of bragging with little about the idea of the “local rapper”. Reminisce held it down the most even if it wasn’t his best ever.

Overall it’s a song that will live in memory for the concept, and the dope beat. It’s also solid enough to enjoy when in the mood. I would’ve loved to see Efa, Morell, Classiq or Morell on it also.

Does it make my playlist? Most def, without a doubt.

Rating: 3.0

There was a rumor that Olamide was kidnapped floating around the internet space. It wasn’t a strong one but a rumor nonetheless.

Olamide and his team have come out early to dispel the rumor, and state clearly that no such thing happened.

Recent reports indicate that the national broadcasting commission (NBC) has now placed a restriction on the time of airplay for one of the hottest songs of 2014 by the upcoming artiste Lil Kesh, “Shoki rmx” ft Davido & Olamide. In a memo sent to all radio stations by NBC, the song can only be played between 10PM and 5AM due to the high number of wrong impressions and sexual representations.

It can be recalled that towards the end of last year, this particular song was reported to have been banned by NBC for lewdness. The media adviser of the NBC who spoke at a press briefing  said:

“the song ‘Shoki’ which is a Yoruba slang for ‘quickie’ has spread to other African countries and everybody is singing what they don’t understand, even my two year old daughter came to my room and just started muttering ‘ahh shoki’, its a scary experience, so we banned it”.

This claim led to a widespread  protests especially across the social media. Few hours after the protest, NBC released a press statement, denying banning the song saying that they only sanctioned a radio station for playing the song during “family time”. They said thus

‘We at the National Broadcasting Commission can confirm there was no such ban. A club version of the song cannot be played on radio. The club version contains vulgar lyrics, which was played around 9am, which is considered as ‘family time’. There is a broadcast code to follow by every broadcast station and this station failed to comply. This said station has been sanctioned for playing a club version during family time. We at the NBC did not ban ‘Shoki’- by Lil Kesh. We simply asked the suitable broadcast version to be played on the radio.’…

We’re finally here at the end of the series for the Top 20 Hottest Nigerian Artists of 2014.

If you haven’t been following, let’s do a quick recap from 20-6

20. Seyi Shay

19. Runtown

18. Skales

17. Ice Prince

16. Timaya

15. Flavour

14. Oritse Femi

13. Reminisce

12. Iyanya

11. Sean Tizzle

10. Patoranking

9. KCee

8. Mavin

7. Tiwa Savage

6. WizKid

5. Yemi Alade

Yemi Alade

Someone told me last year that Yemi Alade could be the hottest female artist in 2014, and I nodded my head like “Yea..Ok… sure”… and here we are towards the end of 2014 and you can say she’s arguably been the hottest female act through the past 12 months.

Her single Johnny, released late 2013, took her to a whole new level, and she followed that up with Tangerine, Kissing, My Head O, and best of all, The Johnny french remix – which introduced her to a continental francophone crowd – all leading up to her debut album, King Of Queens. The album got good reviews and has solidified her as one the leading female acts not just in Nigeria but in West Africa. You might not agree, but this is just the plain truth.

4. Asa

Asa

Anyway you slice it, you gotta agree that Asa has had an outstanding year. She stands right now as one of the best exports of Nigerian music to the world. Even if she doesn’t have the mainstream popularity like some others within Nigeria, she is no doubt one of the hottest in Nigerian music.

Her album, Bed of Stone, was received very well by critics, still high up in the charts, and spun off some solid singles, Dead Again, The One That Never Comes, and Satan Be Gone. For most good music lovers, Asa’s Bed Of Stone is an essential, and it’s for the sheer quality of music it has. If there’s one Nigerian artist of our generation that could steal a grammy award, it’s Asa.

3. Phyno

Phyno Alobam

Phyno took 2014 by the neck, and squeezed it out for all its juice. The swagged up igbo speaking rap star took his red hot fire from 2013 straight into 2014, and put out his debut album, No Guts No Glory at the best possible time he could come out with it. The album has been in heavy rotation since its release and its up there with the best albums of 2014.

Phyno has become one of the most popular names in Nigerian entertainment over the past year with singles, Alobam, Parcel, Authe, Man Of The Year, O Set to his name, and that’s just scratching the surface. He’s been on almost every hot feature, shows, endorsements, award nominations etc. You can really put a claim for Phyno being the artist of the year, but for us he’s at a solid #3.

2. Olamide

Olamide

The hardest working person in Nigerian entertainment without a doubt, Olamide has put out an extraordinary 4 albums in 4 years with the release of Street OT this past November, and he has show very little signs of slowing down. Year after year, hit after hit, Olamide has found a way to stay hot, fresh, and have some of the biggest hits each year.

This year alone, Olamide has directly had a hand in several hits including Awon Goons Mi, Story For The gods, Eleda mi, and Lil Kesh’s Shoki. With his 2013 album Baddest Guy Ever Liveth still buzzing heavily and in preparation for his 2014 album release, there hasn’t been a time this year where Olamide wasn’t hot. To top it all off, his latest album Street OT was #1 on the iTunes world chart before its release.

1. Davido

Davido-BET

Really is there any argument with this? Davido has been the hottest artist of the year since 2014 rolled in. It all started with his tune of the year, Aye, adding to the fire he was packing from his 2013 hit, Skelewu. Davido came into this year with all guns blazings.

With the singles he already released plus some additional ones Naughty with DJ Arafat, a feature on Shoki remix, Tchelete with Mafikizolo, Davido saw his profile rise astronomically on a global scale raking in international award nominations and wins (BET Awards, MOBO), rumors of collaborations with some notable international acts, and sold out shows all over the continent.

Any way you slice it, and even though he doesn’t have an album this year, Davido has been the hottest artist of the year.

***************************************************************************************************************************

Notable Mentions

Brymo – 2 great albums in a 12 month span is hard to ignore

Eva Alordiah – Eva still holds it down as one of the fiercest femcees in the game. Her self titled EP is further proof of that.

Wande Coal – His tune Baby Hello is something like an anthem this year.

Lil Kesh – When you have one of the songs of the year it’s hard to leave you out.

***************************************************************************************************************************

So there you have it people. The top 20 hottest artists of 2014 put together by the great team at Jaguda.com, and additional contributors. Do you agree with the artists on here? Yes? No? What’s yours? Let’s here it.

She’s also an actress on the show Rhythm City and a musician that goes by the name Pam Andrew. As you can see, she rocked a completely see through dress that only covered her boobies and her juice box area. That’s pretty bold.

Oh yeah she’s also married and is a mother. But that’s not a big deal yea?

Now we ask you ladies. Would you rock the dress?
