kach

Lami Phillips’ VERTIAS MUSIK in partnership with SIGNATURE RECORDS announce the release of two new singles by recently signed artist, KACH.

KACH aka Uche Kach is a hip hop/Soul artist who is inspired by real life occurrences from personal to that of people around him and his society. His love for music started in high school when himself and a group of friends would dance and sing to entertain their mates, mostly the girls as Kach emphasizes on. Influenced by his environment, Kach wants his music to be known for pushing boundaries while remaining unique and real.
After listening to his works, it’s safe to describe Kach as a versatile artist. Besides his hip hop and soul music, he also dabbles in R&B as well as Afrobeats.

After his high school, Kach went on to study Business Administration at the University of Bath England. After which he decided to pick up what was done only for the fun of it in high school, music! He is inspired by Drake who he says isn’t afraid to be who he is in his music.

Industry heads refer to Kach as a box of excitement considering his uniqueness in sound and creating a lane for himself.

Under his new label and management, KACH is here with two new singles RED LIGHTS and KACH TENSION. Both produced by Sarz. Red lights is a feel good rap song with a love feel to it. Safe to say Nigeria or Africa has found their Drake. Talk about versatility. On the other hand Kach Tension is a fusion between his rap and afrobeat style. This is something DJ’s will definitely love.

Lami - Baby-1748 web

A video from Lami Phillips for a song dedicated to her husband “Mr Labs,” Lami celebrates the man in her life.

The video follows our re-imagining of “Mr. Labs” getting through a whole lot of unwanted attention on the streets of London while Lami shouts out her love for her “baby” from the rooftops – quite literally, too!

Not a bad watch actually. For such a lovely song, the video could’ve been better, quality wise, but it’s good enough. Enjoy.

New joint from Lami Phillips titled, Romantic Boy. It’s somewhat of a rendition of Patra’s 90s hit, Romantic Call. She features Trybe Records’ own, K9, and both work really well together.

Pretty catchy tune, even as unconventional as it is for the Nigerian music industry

Check on it.

UN Envoy Lami, UN Ambassador of Peace Sound Sultan and Africa’s finest 2Face have collaborated to put out the single Act 4 Africa. The trios were recently appointed Oxfam spokespersons to call on Africans across the continent to action to make sure that the famine experienced in the Horn of Africa recently is the last famine Africa experiences.

As a precursor to a series of public events to raise awareness with Africans everywhere on the importance of addressing Africa’s food security crisis, they have pooled together their communal influence on a song – Act4Africa – which they hope will serve as a call to action.

The initiative is part of Oxfam’s global campaign that aims to allow men and women living in poverty to claim power in the way the world manages land, water and climate change, so that they can grow or buy enough food to eat – now and in the future. In Nigeria the GROW campaign is implemented under the auspices of Voices for Food Security (VFS)—a platform of 15 Nigerian Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and small-scale farmers associations across the country.

Currently 13 million people in the Sahel region are faced with a serious food crisis that threatens their lives and livelihoods. If early and effective action is not taken, it may prove as devastating and costly as past regional food crises in 2005, 2008 and 2010.

Act 4 Africa was co-written by the artistes, produced by J. Sleek and mixed by Indomix

One of our favs from last year, Lami’s Ori Mi Wu is classic and reminds us of why we fell in love with her in the first place.

Check out the video, which pretty much puts some live images to the words of the song. Enjoy.

Female soul singer Lami has released the video for her 2011 single, Ori Mi Wu. It is the first video from her album titled Human scheduled for a summer release, this year. The video comes right on the heels of the valentines day release of her song, Baby, on which she featured Mo’cheddah and Kel. Ori Mi Wu, makes for easy listening and has that relaxed feel to love songs that Lami is popular for. The video features Chocolate City’s Ice Prince and was co-produced by Lami and Abuja-based producer Gru.

Lami is a singer, songwriter and an educationist. Her debut album ‘Intuition’ was released in February 2010 and boasts of successful singles like Know with MI and Ere-Ife with eLDee. Since then, she’s been appointed a UN Ambassador for Peace, and performed at shows within and outside Nigeria.

The female voices of our generation? You can pretty much get all you want from these 4 fantastic and gifted ladies. Yes Tiwa Savage, Chidynma, Waje & Lami grace the cover of Genevieve Magazine this month. The Harmonious Four if you will.

How did this come about? They performed as the G-Girls at a reception for Mrs Fashola, where they blew the crowd away with their Capella of “I’m Every Woman” by Whitney Houston, & Run The World by Beyonce. Yep… You can say these chicks are running their world. No contest. From the voice box, to the stunning looks.

I’m getting a copy of this magazine. You should grab yours too.

Brand new joints from Soul singer/song writer, Lami. It’s been a little bit since we got official singles from her so I’m glad to see her with some new stuff.

Both joints are off her forthcoming album “Human,” which should be released sometime this year.

It certainly looks like the wait was very well worth it, cos Lami delivers majorly on these 2 joints… Seriously, these are extra solid. Yago is a lovely uptempo song, and Ori Mi Wu featuring Ice Prince is a straight lovely mellow “chill with my babe/guy” song. I don’t think many songs can straight up impress you on first listen but this one certainly has.

Lami has proved to us all that it’s better to wait and really cook up good music…. Enjoy.

If you’ve been on twitter over the 2 past months, you’ve probably seen all kinds of top 10 rapper lists. From MI, to DJ MightyMike, to Ovie of NotJustOk, and DJ DeeMoney. Everyone had some sort of top 10 rapper list, and various opinions were brought as well as rebuttals. That’s all good and dandy, and I’m not going to drop another rapper list for you. I think by now we know who is hot and who’s not. Instead I’ll be shedding love to the ladies of vocal power in Nigeria. Too often we get caught up in this male dominated industry that we forget that the women are also making their impact in there.

This list is not an attempt to diss anyone or neglect talent, and for the most part it’s my opinion (Aribaba). I did however get validation from a mini sample set of music listeners to get a more refined list. This isn’t really a popularity contest, so just because someone is popular doesn’t mean she will be number 1. Without too much long gist, here goes…

5. Eva D’Diva

In some ways, folks might be puzzled by my #5 pick, but like I said earlier, this is far from a popularity contest, and so in my opinion and the opinion of a few others, Eva D’Diva (EVAEZI OGORO) deserves to be on here. After listening to her song “God Hand” a few months ago, I was more than convinced that she has to be one of the top female voices in Nigeria. Here’s a little kicker though; 13 years ago her voice box was crushed after a ghastly auto accident. Today, her voice can move furniture in a banquet hall. Under her belt are a slew of hits including “God Hand”, “Na So”, “Mo Fe Be.” She’s been nominated for numerous awards, and has nice collection of hardware in her possession. Don’t take my word for it though… Check her out on our music player & on you-tube.

4. Waje

The first time I heard Waje (Waje Iruobe) on P-Square’s “Do Me” I wasn’t really moved in all honesty. I guess the gbedu aspect of the jam kinda drowned her vocals out, but then years went by, and then I heard “For A Minute”, “Thief My Kele” by Banky W, “So Inspired” and a few other features, and I was sold on her. She has that star factor that any singer wants; A consistent voice that never disappoints. My favorite work from her is “So Inspired.” Her album is one I’m definitely waiting for. Doubt me? Check her out. She’s all over this site.

3. Omawumi

*Sigh*. My beautiful, wonderful crush, Omawumi (Omawumi Megbele). If I wanted to do partia I’ll put her at #1, but I’ll refrain from that. Omawumi has probably had the biggest year of anyone on this list, and for good reason. Omawumi the semi finalist of West African Idol 2007, burst into the scene shortly after the show, and gave us a wonderful track, “In The Music” where she seriously stamped her name in our minds as a voice to be reckoned with. I don’t really think I need to justify this pick too much. The proof is in the music. Her songs, Love Nwantinti, Today na Today, and Niger Delta speak for themselves. Probably my favorite work from her is what she did on Da Grin’s “Thank God”. Her hook took that song from a level 8 to a level 12. Omawumi na pure talent and there’s no denying that.

2. Asa

If this was based on success alone, Asa would be #1. She is probably the most successful female artist of the past 2-3 years. Hit after hit, she’s proved that she is here to stay. I see her being very relevant in the next 10 years. With Asa it’s not just about the vocal ability, but the intangibles she possesses with her music. She is a musician in the true sense of the word. 2 albums under her belt, and multiple hits including, Jailer, Be My Man, There’s a place, Fire On The Mountain… I mean do I need to continue? No I don’t. You get the point.

1. Lara George

I have a feeling some people might jump on my #1 pick, but nah that one concern you…jk. I’ve seen a lot of performers live, including some on this list, and no one… I mean no one (no offense to other singers) can hold a candle to Lara George on stage. This gospel artist flies under the mainstream radar, but anyone that has heard her sing knows that she’s the real deal. Her hits include “Nobody Like you”, “Ijoba Orun”, “Forever in my heart” just to name a few. Still not convinced? Just ask a friend that was at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards 2010 in New York. They are all living (i hope) testimonies to her vocal power on stage. Or better yet, ask the good people at BET; Yes she was featured on BET Now earlier this year. Check out my #1 female singer in naija Lara George – Nobody Like You.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Close calls in no particular order:

Tiwa Savage – Still waiting for an over the top tune from her. Solid work so far though.

Lami – Love her work. If this was top 7 she’d definitely be in it.

Chidynma – One more song from her that is 80% as good as Obimmo and she’ll jump to #3 for me.

Well there you have it. My top 5 female singers in Naija. This is mostly my opinion with some input from a few music listeners I know. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me… actually I predict only about 20% of the readers of this post will agree with me. So you have an issue? Drop a comment and let me know what your top 5 is, or who you are pissed off is not on the list. Or maybe you feel I know nothing about music… Let me hear it. I would insert 9ice’s famous line, but it’s getting played out. Peace.

*Look out more top 5s*

So I recently saw this video on notjustok.com (click on the above link to view) and the song just made me melt. I did my research and found out the songstress paired up with M.I on this single, Know, was none other than Lami Phillips. Her debut album Intuition is fresh off the press with 16 tracks and has gotten great reviews. To buy her album go to notjustok.com and get it for just $4.99.

lami1

Now not only am I here to announce this new artist I’m here to talk a little about her style. Yes I did a lot of research on this woman and slowly but surely she is winning cool points in my book. Not only for her music but also for her style. I love her look on the album cover. The boldness of it speaks volumes from the eyes, hair to the lips all the way down to the stare. Yes, stylists may be the cause for such a look but as an artist you should have ultimate control over your image. And the image on that album is lovely!

lami2

This is a more toned down look but still beautiful in its own right. The make up is flawless and the silver dress compliments her “glowing” skin.

lami4

It looks to me like Miss Lami loves to go the bold and sexy yet classy route when it comes to her style and honestly its working for her. This cowl neckline top paired with a feathered hair piece and neutral make up looks great on her.

lami3

I particularly love this photo of Lami, she’s engaging the audience while performing and having fun with it. She opted for a sheer and flowing dress that does not cling to her, which means she’s taking it easy while still being a little sexy.

lamiandMI2

Here she is alongside my man (yes my man-lol) M.I performing her single Know. I love the green top she has on which she wore with a pair of skinny jeans (not shown here).

Let’s just say I’ve got my eye on Miss Lami Phillips as you all should. But for the guys, don’t look for too long because madame is taken.

Deuces!
