On December 26th 2011, one of Ghollywood’s finest actresses, Juliet Ibrahim along with her sister, Sonia Ibrahim, launched the Juliet Ibrahim Foundation at Zanzi Bar in Accra, Ghana and was hosted by comedian Okey Bakassi. The foundation is dedicated to bringing awareness to kidney cancer.

JIF is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization focused on creating awareness on kidney cancer and providing necessary interventions to ensure a society free of such issues in Ghana and Africa at large.

The foundation is founded by the award winning and celebrated Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim in her bid to give back to society and be socially responsible. This choice was however motivated and inspired after having a personal experience with this live threatening disease by way of close relatives.

This foundation has been a project in the works for awhile so to see it launch and gain supporters within Ghollywood already is most likely icing on the cake for Juliet & Sonia Ibrahim. As a member of society, whether you’re a celebrity or regular working man/woman, we should all give back to our individual communities. It speaks volumes of your character and does a helluva good for any community. Anyway let’s see who came out to show JIF some love!

A few months ago we brought the information about a new movie that would bring Nollywood, Ghollywood & Hollywood together. The movie “Ties That Bind” stars John Dumelo, Ama Abebrese, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde & Kimberly Elise, and was just recently filmed in Ghana.

Synopsis: Adobea, Buki and Theresa are three women from different walks of life bound together by a similar pain; the loss of a child. In a destined meeting in a small village in Kroboland, the women journey together to redemption, love, life and forgiveness as they renovate a dilapidated clinic for the villagers.

This effort is something to be proud of. Check out the pics.

Every now and then, some movies from africa get away from the “Juju” themes or “Sex Sex Sex” and actually tell a story of things that hit home. Somewhere In Africa is one of those. It’s a ghanaian movie by Raj Films.

The movie highlights the story of a military ruler, and his ruthless dictatorship, and crimes against humanity. I’m sure most of us can definitely relate.

Majid Michael, Martha Ankoma, and Roselyn Ngissah all star in the movie.

Check out the trailer, and definitely go see this when it’s released.

Once again, Hollywood meets Nollywood as Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo & Nollywood actress Omotola co-star with Hollywood actress Nia Long in the movie “Ties That Bind.” The movie is written & directed by Leila Djansi.

Actor John Dumelo reacting to the inclusion of Nia Long in the movie states “Nia Long has had a very successful career in Hollywood. I admire her work and, I look forward to a great working relationship with her on set. I am also particularly happy working with Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and, Ama K Abebrese who are both recognized as talented actresses here in Africa”

Very very interesting movie preview. The Ghanaian movie industry seems to be pushing the envelope with their new movies. Hearts of Men can’t even hold a candle to what this movie seems to be hinting at. We wont talk too much “abourrit”… just watch and leave a comment or two on what you think.

So Ghollywood decided to make this movie called Heart of Men and when they put out the preview, you would think Africa had decided to go into the porn business. Anyway, the movie finally came out and i won’t hesitate to say i searched for it to watch it. It was like a 1.2 hour movie and I can honestly say … IT WAS CRAP!!!
Maybe if they took the time to develop the story line or develop the characters, the story would have made more sense. However, one is left filling the blanks and with more questions than when you started watching the movie. You are just confused and have to come to your own conclusions about the movie. I feel like they focused most of the movie on the point where the sex scenes was coming up. And even that part was a hot mess and came up as a pointless. Even the frigging sex scene wasn’t well done!!!  However, when you watch the preview, most of the focus was on the sex scene so people were waiting for the movie just to see what that was about
To tell the truth, I feel like Ghollywood is trying to enter into the level that Hollywood is and there’s nothing wrong with that. I do find something wrong with not developing good scripts and characters and trying to use sex as the tool to do so. It is already accepted that they have great productions and their movies look good. Now all they have to do is get to the level they want to get to with some class!!!
Anyway, here is the link to watch the part, The interesting one is from 4:07 – 6:46. Enjoy.
