Naija Superstar D’Banj is in the process of finalizing a major international record contract. The source is a staff of one of the major international labels, here is his/her account of events:

“It was during a meeting at the record label that I work with (One of the largest international record labels), this particular meeting is a weekly meeting to review new and potential signings. I reviewed the items on the agenda and suddenly I saw the name D’Banj. I was like ah na our boy?! (Didn’t say that out loud though…hehe). The VP leading the meeting led us through how he “discovered” D’Banj at a recent event in LA. From the figures they mentioned, our boy is getting major $$$ for him and million dollar budget for promotion and artist development – the plan is to give him a major international push. Even compared to what they offer ‘urban’ stars, the contract is way above that. Very major! I was proud o”

In addition, word has come that dbanj will play fela in an upcoming Broadway musical version of Fela’s life. This is big things for Dbanj, as the show will be touring around the world. Big Ups!!

Staying with Dbanj, he was spotted in ATL this past weekend apparently on vacation with his crew. He attended Professional Relaxation, a popular grown and sexy party held every third saturday of the month, and promoted by ATL the biggest promoter’s in ATL including Nigerians promotion teams Tiwaworks, and Rising Sun. Check out a few pics from the weekend.

NIGERIAN DJS – GROWING STRONG WITH MUSICAL CELEBRATION

Nigerian DJs Coalition 4th Annual Summer Jam

Friday June 4th through Sunday June 6th in Houston, TX

On June 4th through the 6th, 2010 the “Hottest Coalition of Nigerian DJs” celebrates its fourth annual “Nigerian DJs Summer Jam” in beautiful Houston, TX, home of the largest body of Nigerians in the United States. The “Summer Jam,” as fans call it for short, is the superlative event in the world inviting all cultural tastemakers and Nigerian musicians and celebrities to celebrate Nigeria’s ever-popular musical heritage.

Nigerian DJs Coalition, known as Naija DJs for short, connects the world with Nigerian music through events, workshops, radio programs, mix-tapes and seminars. Naija DJs Summer Jam (SJ) initially started as a party in Maryland in 2006 but has since evolved into a meeting place for members of the coalition, artists and fans to celebrate Nigerian culture through music and consists of a welcome party, the official Summer Jam, and other engagements. SJ attracts many popular artists who employ this medium as a networking opportunity, talent showcase, and publicity platform to get their music to the world through Naija DJs. Artists such as Kelly Handsome, eLDee, NAIRA, Duncan Daniels, and others graced the stage at past SJ events. As a primary highlight of the coalition, Nigeria’s finest DJs such as the legendary DJ Jimmy Jatt, DJ 3k, DJ Dee Money and other members of the coalition consistently bless the “1s and 2s” at the annual SJ event.

Naija DJs Chairman DJ 3k states, “This year’s Summer Jam promises to be another big one.” Houston’s own DJ Tunes will be in attendance along with other Nigerian DJs members, and the musical line up is currently in development with details released soon.

With 90 members spanning several regions of the world, Naija DJs continues to fulfill its purpose and promote Nigerian music. Chapters have emerged under the Naija DJs umbrella such as the Naija DJs UK chapter formed on April 9th, 2008.

More information about SJ can be obtained at the coalition’s official website:http://nigeriandjssummerjam.com/ Detailed information about the coalition and its events including a video and photo gallery of past events are available as well.

The National African Students Association, LLC is an organization that serves to unite African student groups in universities across the United States. They strive to empower ourselves as students by providing opportunities for networking, encouraging outreach and educational achievement all with the aim of advancement for the African continent and diaspora in the United States.
They continually work to equip young African men and women with the tools necessary for them to become forces of change. In line with their goal of empowerment, the National African Students Association hosted a National Conference for African youth in the Diaspora.

The Inaugural National Conference of the National ASA was the weekend of March 19th-21st in Atlanta, GA. The conference took place at Emory University and many schools from around the nation attended with hundreds of students in attendance. The conference had various entertainments throughout the weekend as well as distinguished African intellectuals and professionals who imparted their knowledge and experience on the attendees, to motivate them to achieve real change for Africa. Additionally, a Career Networking Event occurred during the weekend to introduce students to different career possibilities and explore how they could use their professional lives to enhance development on the continent.

To say that students enjoyed themselves is an understatement, as several students left saying that they had a renewed “sense of hope” for Africa and may exclaimed their love for the event through Facebook and various other means. The National African Students Association is an umbrella body that serves to unite African youth as well as support their development in order to push for African progress- this conference serves as a great first step.
