Obviously Davido had a successful year thru 2014, winning multiple awards and an additional endorsement deal with Close Up. He is working incredibly hard on completing his Sophomore album with award and endorsement worthy music.

The Sound ft. Uhuru & Dj Buckz is evidently a solid hit to usher the number one artist in Africa: Davido (OBO, The Baddest) into 2015. The new hit single is Co produced by Uhuru & Shizzi, it will definitely move your body to the sound. The music video to The Sound was shot in Dubai, Directed by Sesan and will leave all in awe.”

Recent reports indicate that the national broadcasting commission (NBC) has now placed a restriction on the time of airplay for one of the hottest songs of 2014 by the upcoming artiste Lil Kesh, “Shoki rmx” ft Davido & Olamide. In a memo sent to all radio stations by NBC, the song can only be played between 10PM and 5AM due to the high number of wrong impressions and sexual representations.

It can be recalled that towards the end of last year, this particular song was reported to have been banned by NBC for lewdness. The media adviser of the NBC who spoke at a press briefing  said:

“the song ‘Shoki’ which is a Yoruba slang for ‘quickie’ has spread to other African countries and everybody is singing what they don’t understand, even my two year old daughter came to my room and just started muttering ‘ahh shoki’, its a scary experience, so we banned it”.

This claim led to a widespread  protests especially across the social media. Few hours after the protest, NBC released a press statement, denying banning the song saying that they only sanctioned a radio station for playing the song during “family time”. They said thus

‘We at the National Broadcasting Commission can confirm there was no such ban. A club version of the song cannot be played on radio. The club version contains vulgar lyrics, which was played around 9am, which is considered as ‘family time’. There is a broadcast code to follow by every broadcast station and this station failed to comply. This said station has been sanctioned for playing a club version during family time. We at the NBC did not ban ‘Shoki’- by Lil Kesh. We simply asked the suitable broadcast version to be played on the radio.’…

Davido is flossing on a whole new level. He just copped a Rolex Rose Gold Presidential watch at a Dubai store just a few hours ago. The watch is worth any from $27,000 to $35,000 (N5 million to 7.5 million).

He put out pictures on instagram with the caption “Shout out to my man @aboud69 ! Just copped brand new Rolex rose gold presidential!” and even taunted the popular fake watch buster handle in the process “@fakewatchbusta can’t bust me!!”

It’s not easy o. We want watch too… Check out these pics

Davido is already started 2015 on a not so friendly note.

In 2014 he made headlines from beef with WizKid. And in 2015? Well he’s subbed someone already and we’re not even a week in. Here’s what he said on Twitter

IMG_6867.PNG

Whoa Nelly!

Our prime suspect? Tanzanian Artist, Diamond Platnumz. He had already put put some subs to Davido late last year after Idris (from Tanzania) won Big Brother Africa over Tayo and Davido had something to say about it. Read More.

We’re guessing Davido didn’t forget and seeing as many feel like Davido helped Diamond Platnumz blow, we’re just solving the equation. But who knows? It might be to Waconzy. Lol.

Wedding-songs

In every year there’s a slew of wedding songs released, and 2014 is no different. Earlier in the year we put out a post for the top 5 wedding songs for 2014, and now that the year is over we are putting out the top wedding song released in 2014.

These songs are songs we predict will be significant wedding hits in 2015. So before it becomes too cliché to use it, you have first dibs. You’re welcome.

1. Tiwa Savage – My Darlin

Tiwa Savage’s My Darlin is barely 4 months old, but it’s already getting popular on radio and TV airwaves and the likes. The natural next natural step is weddings. The wedding themed video tells you all you need to know.

2. Flavour – Gollibe

It was released in his Thankful album just last november, and it’s already being played at weddings in the east. Flavour’s music and weddings go hand in hand like rice and stew, fish and chips, beans and platains… You get the point.

3. Ojoro Justice – My Size

There are songs that are hidden gems and this tune by Ojoro Justice is one of them. Everything about what a bride would want to hear on her wedding day is played out in ‘My Size

4. Sean Tizzle – Perfect Gentleman

Sean Tizzle’s album, The Journey contains a slew of hits, and this song Perfect Gentleman is one of them, and more especially a hit for the weddings.

5. Davido – Aye

Arguably the biggest hit of 2014, Davido’s Aye spells out lyrics for undiluted pure innocent love. Without the concerns of money and material things. Noble lyrics, but does it really apply? No one cares, we love love, so it does the job for weddings.

6. Yemi Alade – Kissing

Me and You, sitting on tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G. I mean wetin else you wan hear from le boo on the wedding day? Yemi Alade’s Kissing is one of the most slept one wedding songs of the year, but not too worry, I predict 2015 will be a big year for it.

7. Mavins – Adaobi

This might be a surprise to some since it comes off as a club hit, but it can double up as a solid wedding song. High tempo, sweet but simple lyrics, and enough diversity from the artists that everyone has a favorite part. Tune!

8. WizKid – One Question

WizKid has a wedding song every year, and this one is the one for 2014. In an album that has a lot of similar sounding songs, One Question with Yemi Sax stands out a bit as the one song we can play at weddings going into 2015.

9. Patoranking – Happy Day

Just get Patoranking to performing this wedding tune “Happy Day” at your coming wedding events and see the glory of love in this hot wedding tune from the next rated award winning reggae music star.

10. Pasuma Wonder | IFE Ft. Tiwa Savage

Fuji music star, Alabi Pasuma Wonder strong entry into the Nigerian hip-hop & RnB music with a classic love song IFE with another fashioned. Deep Yoruba love song backed with Tiwa Savage strong high singing voice. Hope he comes back with another hit love song we can enjoy in 2015.

This is a great achievement to start the year 2015 and the super excited Davido took to his social media platform to announce his deal with Close Up.

Although he did not disclose the amount involved, but telling from his excitement, one can tell it’s a huge deal.. congratulations

I though this was dead and buried, or maybe it is. Who knows? It all depends on what “Balu” means, and from the small research we’ve done, it doesn’t seem to be a good thing.

Waconzy and Davido had issues late last year when Waconzy pretty much called Davido’s Skelewu wack. Davido replied, and the “beef” went on for a bit.

Fast forward to today, and this is what happened?

Well…. What do you think?

It’s about that time again people. We’re here at the end of 2014, and ready to give you the top 40 most downloaded nigerian songs of 2014 right here on Jaguda.com. This doesn’t include singles not released officially (album cuts)

So most downloaded meaning, downloaded on jaguda.com and not the entire internet even though you can possibly see the trend. WizKid has the highest showing with an outstanding 5 songs in the chart, while Olamide has or is featured in a total of 8. Dija comes in as a surprise in the 20s.

We’ve run this quarterly all year(1st Quarter, 2nd Quarter, 3rd Quarter), and so you can get a good indication which songs will be higher up on the list but something we’ve noticed is how some song pick up steam after videos are released e.g. Shoki by Lil Kesh, and Show You The Money by WizKid. As they do every year, Google has put out their top search trends for the year 2014, and more specifically for Nigeria. Topping the list of most searched musicians is WizKid which will come as no surprise to many, with Davido following close by in second. In the movie arena, the Mercy Johnson tops the list of most searched personalities in Nollywood, while the late Kefee and Dora Akunyili (also late) top the lists of people searched in 2014 from Nigeria. The most searched searches has popular blogger Linda Ikeji topping the list, and Stephen Keshi topping the trending list for Nigerian Sports Personalities.

In other spaces some of the interesting “what is” and “who is” trends include, What is Ebola, What is ISIS, What is Doro (Don Jazzy will be proud), Who is Malala, and Who is Kefee.

Here are some of the top trends that you might be interested in from Nigeria.

Davido and WizKid have had a beef filled 2014 with many shots taken at each other on social media, and even on video. The history of beef can be traced to sometime in the summer of 2014.

In this video that surfaced online, the two are shown shaking hands and hugging. Now whether or not that’s just a cordial thing like 50 cents and The Game did way back, we don’t know. But at least we know they are not coming to blows with each other.

And WizKid just a few hours sent a congratulatory tweet to Davido albeit with other acts mentioned.

Tanzanian act Diamond Platnumz and Davido might have had super dope chemistry earlier in the year with their tune, Number One Remix, but something tells me they might not be sharing the dinner table this holiday season. Why?

Well Davido had taken a shot at Channel O Music Awards and Big Brother Africa over what he perceived to be a bias against Nigeria in the award giving, and decided say something about it. In a slick way he just said “N they cheat again” when Idris from Tanzania was announced as the BBA winner over Tayo on sunday at the BBA finale (more here). Davido had also lost out on all 5 of his nominations at the Channel O Music Awards a few weeks ago.

Here is what Diamond Platnumz had this to say on twitter and instagram earlier this week. Any way you look at it, it’s definitely a swipe at Davido.

And on instagram? Here’s what he said “Instead of artists being role models and agents of unity, bringing our countries together to build a strong, prosperous peaceful continent, Africa. We are the first to instigate hate and regionalism. In this manner are we really building Africa? What is our fate? Continuing divide and rule inherited from the colonial era… Anyway, Happy Independence day Tanzania….. ( Badala ya wasanii kuwa ndio Mfano bora wa kuweka karibu Nchi zao na kujenga Africa yenye upendo na Amani…eti wao ndio Wanakua chanzo cha Kutenganisha nchi zao…Namna hii kweli tutajenga Africa? Anyway, Happy Independence day Tanzania….)

Yea… No sharing of suya between these anytime soon. Unless of course they ignore all this and make more beautiful music together.

It’s that time of the year once again, and a chance to look back and reflect on the year that has been. Youtube just released a list of the most viewed music videos in Nigeria for the year 2014, and it pretty shows the hit songs we all expected with a few surprises.

A look at Nigerian music favourites for 2014 reveals that while Nigerians joined the global community in catching Nicki Minaj’s Anaconda “bug”, it is music from top Nigerian stars that kept us dancing through the year. Topping other equally popular videos like ‘Dorobucci’ by Mavins, ‘Wanted’ by Tiwa Savage, ‘Ikwokrikwo’ by Flavour and ‘Surulere’ by Dr. Sid to become the most watched musical video in Nigeria in 2014 is the widely popular track ‘Aye’ by Davido. Note-worthy is the fact that ‘Anaconda’ was the only track on the list that isn’t nigerian.

1. Davido – Aye

2. MAVINS – DOROBUCCI ft Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Dr SID, D’Prince, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, Di’Ja

3. Nicki Minaj – Anaconda

4. Tiwa Savage – Wanted

5. Flavour – Ikwokrikwo

6. Dr SID – SURULERE ft Don Jazzy

7. Yemi Alade – Johnny

8. Davido ft Mafikizolo – “Tchelete (Goodlife)”

9. P Square – Taste the Money (Testimony)

10. Patoranking – Girlie ‘O’ Remix ft. Tiwa Savage

If only we could all buy ourselves Range Rovers for Christmas like Davido just did. Life will be much sweeter yea? Davido has been in the news a lot over the past week or so for more reasons than his music.

The singer put this out on his instagram “EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR MYSELF!! BEEN A GREAT YEAR THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT WORLDWIDE! I WOULDNT HAVE GONE THIS FAR WITHOUT U GUYS!!
