Moving On Up! Dangote Moves Up From 76th to 43rd Richest Man In The World


Still holding firm at his #1 spot as the Richest person in Africa, Aliko Dangote has not jumped up the Forbes list of Richest person in the world. His previous position 76th has been replaced by a new position; 43rd.

According to the list which was released on Monday by Forbes, Dangote – President of Dangote Group and Chairman of Globacom, Mike Adenuga were the only Nigerians on the list.

With a net worth of $16.1 Billion as of March 2013, Dangote retained his position as the richest man in Africa. Meanwhile, Adenuga ranked 269 on the list with a net worth of $4.7 Billion.

Mexican telecoms tycoon Carlos Slim is the world’s richest man with a net worth of $73bn, while Bill Gates is the second with a net worth of the $67bn. 3rd is Armancio Ortega of Spain ($57bn), 4th is Warren Buffet ($53.5bn), and 5th is Larry Ellison with $43bn net worth.

The world’s richest woman is Liliane Bettencourt, the 90-year-old heiress to a 30% stake in cosmetics group L’Oreal. With a fortune that Forbes pegs at $30 billion – up $6 billion from last year – she ranks ninth wealthiest overall.

The second richest woman is Christy Walton of the U.S., who inherited her husband John Walton’s stake in Wal-Mart when he died in a plane crash in 2005.

The third richest woman is yet another Walton family member — Alice Walton, daughter of visionary retailer Sam Walton, who founded Wal-Mart with his brother in 1962. Alice Walton, ranked number 16 in the world.
