Hearing Kizz Daniel and Wizkid on the same track has to be one of the most anticipated collaborations we looked out for this year. The two big names like that duet on a track is enough big deal yo!
Kizz Daniel is now enjoying one thing he never got to really savor at his former record label. The freedom to work with every and any artiste he wants without stringent guidelines from his former handlers. Now that the ‘no collabo’ burden is off his shoulders Kizz Daniel is exploring new vistas working with new producers and colleagues. We have seen him shine on his previous collaborations.
Nonetheless, “For You” is different, because the song is primarily his and star boy Wizkid is a sidekick riding the track. Like it has been mentioned before, the publicity before the release of this joint has been overwhelming and that begets a bloated expectation. It has to be something dropping from the realms of the gods. We are expecting Kizz Daniel and Wizkid to make an epic record anything less than a classic wouldn’t be good enough.
For once I would say Kizz Daniel disappointed. “For You” is a far deviation from the kind of music we would be expecting from Oluwatobiloba and Ayodeji. I wanted to hear something upbeat, witty and up-tempo. Something along the lines of “Yeba”, “Jumbo”, even “Mama” or a fine mixture of all three. But no, boy Kizz settled for a mellow dancehall tempo which isn’t intoxicating. No doubt it’s a fine song, however, this kind of song would look better as part of an album not a single.
It feels a little difficult to open your heart and truly absorb the tune. It doesn’t quite strike the right nerves. The biggest Nigerian music head at the moment Wizkid could do nothing to spice up the song. Definitely fans may move away very quickly from this collaboration as if it never happened. With much hope we look forward to another inspiring collabo between Wiz and boy Kizz because “For You” did little to quench our thirst.
