The Economic & Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made an official response to news that it froze accounts belonging to some members of the Adeleke family including Davido.
The EFCC responded to the rumours it froze the accounts of Senator Adeleke and other members of the family including pop star Davido via its official twitter handle.
The announcement was made on its official Twitter handle (@officialEFCC).
“#Alert The EFCC Did Not Freeze the account of Senator Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for Sept 22, 2018 Osun State governorship election. None of his family members, including the musician, Davido was (were) frozen as alleged in a number of news media,” the tweet read.
“For the avoidance of doubt, at no time did the EFCC place a freeze order on any account belonging to members of the Adeleke family,” it added.
Earlier Davido had insinuated his account and those of other members of the Adeleke was put on freeze by EFCC after he retweeted a tweet spreading the news. The singer also engaged in little chit chat to drive home the news on his Twitter timeline.
The news about the freezing of Mr Adeleke’s account alongside Davido’s was shared using an unverified Twitter handle (@PDP_2019).
The tweet read “EFCC freezes 7 different bank accounts of the Adeleke family (@IsiakaAdeleke1 PDP gubernatorial Candidate’s family) including that of @iam_Davido and his multibillionaire dad. On the other hand, PMB releases N16B to @raufaregbesola to rig election.”
The tweet quickly caught the attention of twitter users and became a topic for discussion until it was debunked Sunday by the EFCC.
