Danny Young Vs Tiwa Savage Song Theft: This Is What We Know

1

Nigerian singer Danny Young has accused Tiwa Savage of allegedly stealing his intellectual property. In a video Danny Young expressed his disappointment after Tiwa Savage used lyrics from his 2009 song ‘Oju Tiwon’ for her latest single ‘One’.

The singer drew attention to part of his lyrics that was stolen by Tiwa Savage.

The lyrics there goes as follows ‘O d’odun lan ri orogbo, o do’dun lan ri ahusa, o d’dodun lan ri omo obi lori igba, my life don better’.

The Mavin Records first lady lifted those lyrics just as they are. However, that lyrics is a popular Yoruba adage except for ‘my life don’t better’.

Still focusing on the alleged stolen lyrics, it’s discovered that King Sunny Ade was the first to use the popular Yoruba adage as a lyrics in his song ‘Merciful God’ in 1987.

  1. Danny Young is wrong for calling out Tiwa Savage the way he did. First, she made it very clear that the songwriter of the song One was Wale Turner. Secondly, that is a Yoruba adage and can be definitely used by anyone. Same applies to the pidgin line ‘my life don better’.
