5 Easy Steps to Lose Belly Fat

Belly fat is unattractive, embarrassing and very hazardous to your health.

Trainers peddle their diet programs, and diet pills say they work like a charm; however you can lose your belly fat easily with some simple steps that won’t cost you any money.

Step 1

Move your body. The fastest way to loose belly fat is to get plenty of exercise. The MayoClinic.com says you should get at least two and one half hours of strenuous exercise per week; however, you should sweat it out every day if you want faster results. There are easy ways you can fit exercise into your daily routine. Park your car a longer distance from your office and walk to work, power walk during your lunch hour, or take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Step 2

Drink plenty of water. If you don’t hydrate your body, it retains water, bloating your stomach. In a study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, Dr. Brenda Davy of Virginia Tech found that people who drank a glass of water before they ate a meal consumed 75 fewer calories than people who did not drink a glass of water before they ate. Dr. Davy says being just 1 percent dehydrated can cause your metabolism to drop, which means you can’t burn as many calories. The MayoClinic.com says you should drink at least eight 8 oz. glasses of water per day.

Step 3

Cut out alcoholic drinks from your diet. Alcohol damages your liver and slows down your metabolism, making it harder to loose belly fat. There is no nutritional benefit or advantage when you drink alcohol. One beer has an average of 100 calories, so you can quickly ruin your diet by consuming alcoholic beverages.

Step 4

Make sure your body gets enough sleep. When you are sleep deprived, you can feel sluggish and tired, making it harder to get enough exercise. Sleep deprivation also slows down your metabolism, which makes it more difficult to loose belly fat. The National Sleep Foundation says you should get seven to eight hours of sleep every night. If you find it hard to get that much, try and take a 15 minute nap at some point in your day.

Step 5

Reduce the amount of sodium you consume. Sodium causes your body to retain water, which bloats your belly. You already get enough sodium in the foods you consume every day, so there is no need to add salt to any of your food. Next time you are at a restaurant, add pepper instead of salt. The MayoClinic.com says you should eat no more than 2,400mg of sodium each day.

Step 6

Make breakfast a priority. Eating breakfast should be the first thing you do when you get up, because eating a meal right away in the morning starts your metabolism burning calories and keeps it burning throughout the day. Meals Matter says people who eat breakfast are more likely to make healthy choices in their diets during the day.
