We have been flooded with tons of music thus far in 2018 and we have hand picked those ones that totally stormed the yard.

  1. Burna Boy – Ye

After a controversial period last year involving Mr 2Kay, Burna Boy came back stronger in 2018. He released an album, his third, titled “Outside”. The album is considered one of the best LP released this year. One of the most outstanding tracks on the album is “Ye”. An amazing song that showcases the desire of an average Nigerian. The track has been trending on Twitter and also a music chart topper.

  1. Starboy – Fake Love ft. Wizkid x Duncan Mighty

No one could have predicted Wizkid and legendary Port Harcourt breed singer Duncan Mighty would get in the booth and make music together. Well, it happened before we could blink an eye. Star boy and Wene Mighty made a delectable piece of music titled “Fake Love”. It easily became a fan favorite as the melody on this track is rich.

DMW is about the baddest music group in the country at the moment. The Davido-led music imprint dropped an all-star jam “Mind”. Each individual artist on the track brought in his A game and it was all worth it. Fresh VDM again proved he is the future when it comes to music production.

MMMG lead act Tekno isn’t just a singer but also a badass producer. He conjured a new magic tune “Jogodo” by sampling an old classic “Polongo” by Danfo Drivers. The entrance of the song is so strong it can elicit a response from the listener. Since its release, “Jogodo” became an instant hit at the same time stirring up some dust of controversy. What’s better?

  1. This Is Nigeria – Falz

Major shout out to rapper Falz for conceptualizing the idea on “This Is Nigeria” and adeptly executing it. The song which is a cover for Childish Gambino’s “This Is America” sparked immediate interest among the Nigerian populace and also drew the ire of some religious groups. In less than 36 hours of release, the video grossed over a million views on YouTube. The song inspired other versions as subsets of Nigeria. It’s one of the best releases so far this year.

  1. Naira Marley – Issa Goal ft. Lil Kesh x Olamide.

Just as the “Shaku Shaku” movement waxed stronger, Naira Marley scored a massive hit with “Issa Goal”. The jam is a DJ’s party shaker as far as shaku shaku is concerned. “Issa Goal” further amplified as the World Cup drew near with a star-studded CocaCola remix done. This was the most played song when Nigeria won Iceland during the World Cup group stage.

  1. Mr  Real – Legbegbe

This song is arguably the biggest “shaku shaku” song on the planet. Indeed Mr Real hit quite a fortune with “Legbegbe”. Popular disc jockey DJ Spinall got an instant hit with “Nowo”. Wizkid brought his much-desired flavour on the track to match the brilliant beats made by Killertunes. A highlight of the song was the moment Rihanna posted a clip of some children dancing graciously to “Nowo” on her page. The video has raked in millions of views on YouTube.

Still leveraging on the “Shaku Shaku” trend, DJ Enimoney scored a hit with a super line up of featured artists. “Diet” went viral, it also caught the attention of NBC who issued the song should be banned for promoting drugs. Codeine was mentioned a lot on the song which caused a bit of frown, but besides that “Diet” is a party rocker.

YBNL boss, Olamide knows how to make controversial hits, “Science Student” is one of them. In a year where shaku shaku is supreme “Science Student” is among the best shaku songs, you can find. Although the lyrics seem questionable, at the end of the day it’s all about loosening up and dancing.

May was declared the month of “Assurance”, rightly so because Davido stunned his girlfriend with a Porsche assurance. Davido’s show of love to Chioma brought heavy buzz to the track. It was more than just a song, it was a dream for most ladies seeking movie typed kind of love. Within 24 hours of its release “Assurance” grossed 1 million views on YouTube. Currently, it is topping music charts in the country both on radio and TV.

This is currently the number 1 song in the country right now. “Soco” is definitely playing in your neighbourhood, it’s playing at parties and clubs, street corners etc. In fact, “Soco” has gone abroad. Wizkid and a group of star boys came together and made the number 1 party song in the country. The song is on every music chart and countdown. Soco is our number 1 song so far in 2018.
