It’s right about the end of the year 2011, and it’s the time to take a look back at what and who did their thing in 2011. If you’re familiar with the vh1 series Best Year Ever, then you’ll catch our drift on this series.
For the next few days we’ll be profiling entertainers in Nigeria who have had great years. When we say “great year” we mean a significant jump in status and brand recognition. It could mean someone that was barely known becoming a household name, or an established act taking their talents beyond what anyone expected.
Without too much story, Neefemi & I (Aribaba) shall jump in with the series.
I start off today’s edition with none other than the beautiful and always wonderful. The angelic voice from Nigeria,…
So when it comes to having great years I don’t think you can argue with the fact that Ms. W.A.J.E is having arguably the best year of her career.
Mid-last year only a few people outside the entertainment industry really knew Waje and in many cases you had to be reminded that oh yeah, that’s the girl that did xyz song with abc person. The talent was never in question and though she was already building up her fan base and follower-ship, she almost immediately sky-rocketed to everyone’s living rooms with the release of her single “So Inspired” featuring Muna and “One Naira” a collabo with MI on MI2. These might have been the rockets that shot her into mainstream stardom going into 2011.
Before we knew what was happening, Waje becomes one of the most popular female RnB acts out of Nigeria, and for all the right reasons.
With that amount of success comes heavy recognition. The awards and nominations flowed in this year for Waje. Headies, NMVA, Channel O, NEAs all penned down Waje’s name as a nominee and she’s won a couple from that list.
She’s also landed major Magazine covers also from Vanguard Allure to Genevieve Magazine. Everyone is trying to catch a piece of Waje.
Performances? That one dey too. What major concert or show hasn’t she been a part of? Headies, MI2 Launch in UK, NEA Awards, P-Square Invasion, and a host of others that we probably cant list on here.
With a host of features over the past year, a hot single Na The Way featuring feat J-Martins, a solid Christmas tune Christmas=Jollification (with Omawumi) and a yet to be released album we don’t see Waje losing steam going into 2012. It all looks like she’s going in the positive direction full force with no pumping of brakes.
