David Adedeji Adeleke also known as Davido (OBO) is our Jaguda Artiste of the Month. The Nigerian music export has been crown our featured artiste for the month of November.
It has been a long time coming for Davido in the music business with only two years shy of attaining a decade in his music career. The ride has been mostly a jolly ride with splashes of controversies to keep his name on the entertainment headlines from time to time.
This year has been full of activities for the DMW boss, he barely spent a whole month in Nigeria on a stretch. For the most part of the year, Davido has been catching flights traveling from city to city outside the shores of Nigeria preaching the gospel of Afrobeat(s). Part of that journey has been giving more push to his unexpected breakthrough hit song ‘Fall’ in America.
However, the most remarkable thing he has so far achieved in 2019 would be the release of his sophomore album. The music community, fans, critics and everyone in-between waited for the past 7 years to finally have a taste of Davido’s second studio album. No doubt he enjoyed massive success and accomplished staggering milestones on the backs of his numerous hit singles without an album. You will almost think an album is unnecessary if you attained that high level of success Davido pulled through his singles.
after much prayers, fasting and guilt-tripping OBO finally chose November for the release of his sophomore album ‘A Good Time’. He kept his promise this time and dropped the damn thing! The album title carries with it several emotions but most importantly in ends in tears of joy. A good time indeed, anyhow you look at it.
At 27, Davido has achieved a lot in his music career and can most likely look forward to another decade of making music from here onward. ‘A Good Time’ came right after his birthday into the arms of high expectations and standards. It’s been 7 years hence magic is almost expected.
Sadly, Davido did not deliver magic on his second album ‘A Good Time’ as reviewed. It did not meet the high standards that were preset.
However, the album release was very vital in fostering the album culture. OBO can check that off his bucket list.
One thing that stands out from the album experience was his ability to turn a messy freestyle into a major hit. Besides the album, Davido has had a good year. He fathered a son, got engaged to the love of his life, sold out the O2 Arena, London amongst other things.
For Davido it has been a good time regardless of a disappointing sophomore album.
