10 Nigerian Artistes In Desperate Need Of A Hit In 2017

9

Music in Nigeria has come to a point where competition is very stiff. No one enjoys a monopoly at the top of the varied music charts. More talents are popping into the market in good number. The life span of a hit song is more short lived because of the overwhelming volume of music put out on a daily.

From the above premise, there are a number of Nigerian artistes who need a hit record to stay relevant or slowly slip into oblivion. Let’s see who they are.

Chidinma

Miss Kedike has slowly lost her sauce over the past 18 months. Her influence in the music industry has dwindled to just her  fine face and pretty smile. Chidinma needs to get back to the studio and cook up something that will restore her lost glory. Her recent song “Fallen In Love” didn’t quite do the magic we all wanted.

D’Prince

Who else misses D’Prince, that guy from the Mo’Hits era? What an irony that one of Africa’s biggest music producers is his brother, Don Jazzy, yet his music suffers lackluster. Last year was a struggle for him as none of his music release even got our attention for a minute. Desperate measures need to be employed to awaken his redundant music career.

Kcee

Co-founder of troubled Five Star Music, Kcee, is one artiste in desperate need of a hit song. It’s an old gist that Harrysong helped revive his lukewarm career. That might explain the desperation at Five Star Music to have their songwriter and music director back at the label. Hopefully, Harrysong may write Kcee another hit song like Limpopo.

Banky W

The best days of Banky W in terms of churning hit records are right behind him. New comers have totally stolen the spotlight from him, that may explain his foray into acting and other trades. Mr capable has not declared he has actively quit doing music. Hence, there’s pressure on him to stay relevant by dropping a banging record which is very much a dream.

Dammy Krane

Can anyone remember the last time Dammy Krane dropped a hit record? We can all remember this lad was very auspicious back in the day. In fact, Dammy Krane was put on the same pedestal as Wizkid or Davido at that time. His recent partnership with Davido hasn’t exactly been stellar and worthy of eulogy. It’s shows someone frantically fighting for gain his balance. Can Oyindamola Emmanuel release a mad record this year?

Ice Prince

One way to describe Ice Prince career could be “How have the mighty fallen?”. Cast your mind back you’d remember Ice won a freaking BET. Ice was about the biggest Nigerian rapper at the time. Oh well, all that was in the past. From some quarters Ice Prince is taunted to have gone from a super star to an upcoming artiste. Panshak Zamani needs an Oleku-esque kind of song to save his life ASAP.

Waje

If you ask me, my best Nigerian female vocalist will be Waje. Albeit, the songstress has operated under the radar for far too long. Will 2017 be that year Waje wins her way back to our hearts with a major hit song? From this point of view, it’s about time she makes a gallant return to music.

D’banj

Can the Koko master give his Nigerian fans a number one hit record in the country again? Emergency tried when you put it in comparison with all his output since he started DB records. Well, that’s not his best effort. Does D’banj still have any leftovers of sauce in him?

Dr Sid

After all said and done, Dr Sid seems like one of the weakest link in the new version of Mavin Records. The new lads at Mavin have had a good run so far and Dr Sid seems left behind. Since obviously the Dentist turned musician hasn’t retired from doing music it’s about time he made his presence felt. How? By dropping a hit!

Bracket

Bracket NANA

Singing duo of Obumneme Ali a.k.a. “Smash” and Nwachukwu Ozioko a.k.a. “Vast” known as Bracket have lost their magic when it comes to making hit records. They used to have the number one hit record at the time “Yori Yori” and a good number buzzing singles. The industry has changed so fast the duo seem left out of the buzz and fun. Can they bounce back in 2017?

If you feel there is anyone we have not mentioned drop your opinion in the comments section. Gracias.
