Top on the list of our expectations in 2017 would be hit songs to make us jolly as we all hustle and grind. Like myself, I’m ready to blast some new banging tunes from my headphones and speakers. We are in these together, LOL! 2017 is the year we expect more albums from Nigerian artists.

Alright, there are certain albums to look forward to this year. Which artiste are you eagerly awaiting his/her album release this year?

You definitely should be on the  look out for these projects.

1Davido

About a year now, the Nigerian entertainment blogosphere was flooded with news of Davido inking a deal with Sony Music. Invariably, his sophomore album was thereby put on hold stemming from the deal and we didn’t like it. This year will see Davido’s contract with the international music giants take a full swing as his long awaited album will be released under the imprint. The features on this album will be star-studded with international collaborations. It will be worth looking out for. Hopefully that’ll make us forget the Son Of Mercy EP.

2Tekno

Year 2016 was undeniably terrific for Tekno. First, you had about the biggest song (Pana) in the country. Second, you scooped a good number of enviable awards. To cap it all you’re able to secure a Sony/RCA contract and you get recognized by Billboard, what’s better? It’s very likely Tekno’s debut album will receive a big push as a result of his international music deal. The crescendo is high for the ‘Pana’ crooner, an album in 2017 would be fantastic.

3Korede Bello

Who else feels Korede Bello should hit us with an album? The Mavin records ‘Mega superstar’ can be dubbed as a ‘digital Prince’, owing to his highly successful releases on digital platforms like YouTube. He gets an enviable number of streaming from his songs. His label mate Reekado Banks was first to drop an album among the Mavin 2.0 trio.  Korede Bello is tipped as the next in line to drop an LP. You should expect viral and infectious tunes.

4Simi

In the past twelve months, Simisola Ogunleye growth has been wowzers. The petite and deeply sonorous singer strikes a chord every time she sings. Nigerian music lovers have been swayed and slain again and again when her voice shrieks from a record. Simi’s input on the joint EP ‘Chemistry’ with Falz was impressive. The EP was a makeup for her album which was to be released last year. Simi’s album is in the works already except the unusual.

5Omawumi

When it’s time to get serious and move away from gibberish and corny lyrics, Omawumi is one of those few artistes that creeps into your mind. This Afro lover and mother of two is one of the best voices we got. To start off the year, Omawumi Megbele inked a contract with a new label Cabal Entertainment and also released a ballad ‘Butterflies’ under the imprint. As far as the story goes. Omawumi’s third studio album will be released this year under the label.

6Jesse Jagz

Jesse, a top notch lyricist and emperor of Jagz Nation let his promise to drop three LP’s last year fall through. None of that came to fruition, however the controversial rapper again promised to quench the thirst of his fans by dropping a full body of work this year. If you belong to the ‘endangered species’ of those who give priority to lyrics and word craft then you must surely wait upon the emperor; a ‘god on the mic’.

7Skales

Raoul Njeng-Njeng better known as Skales is a hard worker. Well he never throws in the towel, he never taps out so he dubbed himself ‘the never say never guy’. Interestingly, that alias will be the title of his sophomore album billed for release in March. Skales has transformed, and more of that should reflect on his sophomore album. Wait for it.

8Cynthia Morgan

Nigeria’s fierce female dancehall act and ‘redhead’ Cynthia Morgan flopped last year. After creating several social media campaigns with hash tags insinuating a lead to a possible album release, suddenly, everything ceased. All those campaigns got us nowhere. We don’t want to give up hope on the Edo state singer just yet. Hence, her debut album is still worth anticipating.

9Wizkid

Just a few days into 2017 Wizkid promised us 4 mixtapes. Well that’s surprising a bit because we wished it would have been an album. No heartbreaks as we can still expect more music from Wizkid. Four mixtapes? How’s that going to happen? I will suggest we all wait it out. Daddy Yo is already leading the path in a big way.

10Mr Eazi

Oluwatosin Ajibade our Nigerian music star resident in Ghana, is gearing up for the release of his mixtape ‘Accra to Lagos’. The Star Boy music act had an impressive 2016 he hopes to at least maintain the momentum by dropping a mixtape come February. Expect some good ‘Banku music’.

11Ycee

Tinny Entertainment front man and rapper Ycee will be dropping an EP soon. An official release from the expected ‘The First Wave’ EP is Link Up featuring Reekado Banks, the number is doing well currently and a video is expected soon. ‘The First Wave’ by Ycee is something you want to look out for. The EP will be backed by Sony Music Africa.

12Runtown

Runtown ended 2016 by dropping one of his hottest songs till date in ‘Mad Over You‘. It’s the one of many tracks that’ll lead up to his album that is expected to be released in 2017. After a successful debut album, and a rough 2016, everyone will be anticipating some growth in his new project.

13Flavour

We know it’s about that time again. After his successful albums Blessed & Thankful, Flavour is definitely due for another album this year. I mean, it’s been three years. From what we understand, that album is in the works. The singles, ‘Obianuju & ‘Une Soul‘ are the lead singles of the project, and you can except another one before the album drops.
