50Orezi – Ogede ft. WizKid

Off his debut album, The Ghen Ghen album, Orezi dropped this catchy party joint with the help of WizKid, Timaya and Kid Dominant. In classic Nigerian fashion, he coined a word to use in the chorus and it strikes a chord with the Nigerian party goer. This nice tune kicks off our top 50 Nigerian songs of 2015.

49Davido – Dodo

It’s been a great year for Davido, and one of the big singles that helped make his year is this tune Dodo. It was initially supposed to be the last single before his sophomore album release, but his album ended up getting moved to 2016. We still took the single though. The comical video aided in the way the song was received, and it definitely helps that the song is mad catchy.

48Iyanya – Applaudise

Iyanya has found his sweet spot in Nigerian music, and is milking it till the tap runs dry. This classic wedding song is featured on Iyanya’s 3rd album with the same title, and utilizes traditional highlife melodies, and sounds. It’s what Iyanya does best, and he did it well on this one.

47Timaya – Sanko Remix ft. Destra

Yes we know Sanko was a hit in 2014, but when soca queen, Destra, jumped on the remix, it extended the time this tune stayed buzzing. This version of the song was so good, you wondered if it would’ve been better if this was the actual original. Either way you see it though, it’s still a very hot tune, and gave Timaya some extended buzz well into 2015.

46Adekunle – Sade

The first of Adekunle Gold’s string of 2015 hits, Sade, gave a new style to what Nigerian love songs can sound like. It was technically a cover to One Direct’s “Story of My Life”, but you’d be forgiven if you prefer this version. The song took Adekunle Gold to a much higher status, and it was just beginning of a fantastic 2015 for the YBNL signee.

45Soul Flavour – Jumoke

Soul Flavour dropped this highly underrated RnB tune, Jumoke earlier in the year. It’s one of the lovely tunes that many people absolutely love and always end up trying to dig out more from the artist. Lyrically solid, melodically it’s top notch, and it sticks in the brain once you’ve heard it once or twice.

44Patoranking – Make Am

A bit of an experiment from Patoranking, Make Am turned out to be a pretty dope tune. It’s far from his typical dancehall type of tunes, instead opting for 70s-80s style Nigerian highlife. The message also hits a chord with the hopes and dreams of many Nigerians. Nobody wey no fit to make am, and that’s just the truth.

43DJ Shabsy – Raba ft. Kiss Daniel & Sugarboy

Raba is one of the type of songs that’s almost always guaranteed to be a hit in Nigeria, and DJ Shabsy recruiting Kiss Daniel and Sugarboy meant that it’ll have top notch artists on it. The song has been a hit pretty much since its release, and a lot of Radio OAPs will tell you it’s one of the most requested songs this year. That tells you everything.

42Naeto C – Atide

Naeto C’s triumphant return in 2015 included this lead single for his album, Festival. Atide produced by Maleek Berry is everything you’d want to hear at an owambe when you hit one up. Forget about your worries, and really just dance. It’s what Nigerians like to do, and Naeto C provided just that one this tune.

41Classiq – Anfara

Classiq, arguably the hottest rapper from the Northern part of Nigeria has unleashed quite a number of cuts but Anfara caught our attention. The beat is on point, the delivery is sick; the wordplay is off the hook. Anfara starts off with a suspense filled intro then BAM!!! 808’s, giving you the Mike Will Made It feel. This is definitely the nutsiest ClassiQ song. And “An Fara” is Hausa for “They have started”. This is Hip-Hop Yo!

40Davido – The Money ft. Olamide

You can say we saw this coming all year. After featuring on multiple tracks together (Shoki Remix, Indomie Remix), the natural progression was that they’d link up for their own tune. The Money turned out to be the tune many hoped it’ll be; Groovy, Clean, Catchy, and in some ways, meaningful. Because really when it comes down to it, isn’t life really about the money? At least to a sizable number.

39Korede Bello – Somebody Great Ft Asa

Mavin Record’s finest, Korede Bello collaborates with Asa to unlock this pop-rock/alternative ballad dubbed “Somebody Great”, inspired by the quest to be great. The distorted intro almost makes you think the song is going heavy but it suddenly goes subtle. The synergy by both acts makes the song more enjoyable. And what does Korede mean by “bear bear don show, Junior don grow?” he’s just a silly kid. Lol. Great track, message well conveyed.

38Olamide – Melo Melo

Critically acclaimed king of the streets (a well-deserved title in my personal opinion), Olamide stepped down a notch from his usual clamorous tracks to something more laid back, ecstatic and somewhat cathartic. Everything about this song is nice, and lyrically it’s one of Olamide’s best songs. Good music!

37Wizkid – Expensive Shit

Wizkid’s music just has a way of forcing its way into our heads and we go from hate to love as if he jazzed us. One thing we cannot deny is the fact that Wizkid is a boss. Expensive Shit is another of Wizkid’s numerous singles where you probably hear the same old clichés and lines but you can’t help but groove to it. He dropped the video shortly after to emphasize the fact that he’s on nothing but “Expensive Shit”. Production credit goes to the usual suspect, Sarz.

36Runtown – Bend Down Pause

Runtown is just an amazing artiste. He sure knows how to move with the trend, serving tracks that gets DJ’s excited. The Del’B produced track features Star Boy, Wizkid, with his usual appeal and sensual lyrics. This song makes you forget yourself for a moment as you “Bend down pause”.

DOWNLOAD

35Burna Boy – Soke

When Burna Boy left Aristokrat Records, it seemed like a bad move. A good number of fans and critics felt it was game over. Well it is not, as we all have seen. Burna Boy keeps rebranding and trying out new sounds. Soke is a fusion of afro beat and dancehall with rich sounds assembled by Orbeat. The song brewed mixed emotions when it was first released but like a lot of other Nigerian songs, it grew on us.

34Kiss Daniel – Good Time

Is Kiss Daniel a good singer? Yes, does he have a great connection with DJ Coublon? Absolutely! Good Time by Kiss Daniel is another great tune by G-World Wide’s finest. Kiss Daniel is on the path of creating his brand and fan base and quite frankly, he’s done very well. With Woju and Laye credited to him, a solid album would seal the deal for him. Good Time just makes you wanna have a good time.

33Vector – 8

Personally I feel Vector deserves more street cred. The lad can sing and rap yo! Vector did a lot of singing on this dancehall tune; one would be tempted to think he’s a better singer than a rapper. The laid back tune has Vector showing his versatility, wordplay and sheer wit. Vector sure knows how to play around and have fun on his cuts. Vector made a giant stride with his 2hours freestyle which put his name in the records, something no rapper has ever done in Nigeria. 8 was produced by legendary hit-maker, Mekoyo.

DOWNLOAD

32Simi – Open and Close

You cannot ignore Simi’s sharp yet melodious voice. After serving us with “Jamb Question” which became an instant hit, Simi did not relent in dropping another catchy tune dubbed, “Open and Close”. One thing I like a lot about Simi’s music is how she always has a story to tell and she walks you through the whole drama on every verse. This song is no exception. She sure deserves a spot on our charts.

31Reminisce – Local Rappers Ft Olamide & Phyno

Reminisce or Baba Hafusa like he is recently being called linked up with rappers of his creed, Olamide and Phyno to drop one of the most solid indigenous collaborations this year. The song stirred up a lot of controversies which brewed mixed feelings from fans and colleagues in the game. But what’s Hip – Hop without beef? The trio unleashed an undeniably energized sound and deserve to be called Kings of indigenous rap music in Nigeria.

30Adekunle Gold – Pick Up

It’s almost impossible to hate Adekunle Gold and his monumentally melodious tunes. He just entered the industry and immediately won our hearts with top of the charts tunes like Orente and Sade. Adekunle is on the path of defining his brand of music and he’s doing a great job. Pick Up is another great track you cannot resist. The song was produced by Pheelz. Don’t even bother trying to resist this hook. It’ll be in your head until 2016.

29Lil Kesh – Is it Because I Love You Ft. Patoranking

Another infectious tune from the YBNL camp by Lil Kesh titled “Is it Because I Love You” featuring Patoranking. The song was collaboratively produced by Young John and Pheelz, so it’s no surprise this made its way into our list. Probably the most impressive thing about this song is the switch up in style from Lil Kesh. Oh you thought it was only Shoki dancing he could come up with?

DOWNLOAD

28Wizkid – Baba Nla (Final)

Every year is a good year for Wizkid, musically. He remains a pace setter especially in the international community. When it comes to getting topnotch collaborations, Wizkid is never left behind. Baba Nla (Final) is another of Wizkids braggadocios tunes, where he does nothing but floss and talks expensive, typical right? The song slowly gets into your subconscious mind without permission and stays there. Wizzy baby baba nla.

27Phyno – Connect

Phyno fino, one of Nigeria’s heavy weights and Penthauz’ finest, can almost never go wrong on song. Phyno put out this bodacious tune to let haters know that they cannot mess with his “Connect”. He switches up his style on this, and pretty much sings throughout, but did it really matter? The song talks about his struggle and how he’s made it so far. Haven risen to the top and fraternizing with top dogs in the game, you definitely cannot mess with Phyno’s connect.

26Lil Kesh Ft Viktoh – Efejoku

When Shoki (Remix) featuring Olamide and Davido came out, it became an instant hit and a lot of music critics felt that was the best of Lil Kesh. Lil Kesh has certainly put his haters to shame with back to back releases. Efejoku is one amongst Lil Kesh’s hits that has successfully gained acceptance. The rumbustious track features label mate Viktoh and produced by Young John (the wicked producer). The YBNL camp is well known for their infectious tunes and catchy clichés.

25Banky W – High Notes

Banky W has attained legendary status as far as the Nigerian music industry is concerned. Well that’s argument for another day. Back to business; High Notes came out at a time when we were almost thinking Banky was done with music. He unlocked this sonic tune, raising the bar for everyone in the industry. What’s really intriguing about Banky is how he switches from singing to rap like it was nothing. “They say all men are dogs, I said I’m a different pedigree”, Banky sure puts a lot of rappers to shame.

24Waje – Left For Good Ft Patoranking

Waje Waje Waje, arguably one of the best vocal power houses in Nigeria teamed up with Dancehall maestro, Patoranking to unleash “Left For Good”, which talks about romance gone bad with a hook that will send chills up your spine. Waje whose vocal range covers three octaves did justice to the E-Kelly produced Reggae/dancehall tune. Not your everyday Waje type song still she nailed it perfectly.

23Reekado Banks – Katapot

Mavin Records act and 2014 Headies “Rookie of the Year” award winner Reekado Banks, is undeniably one of the most gifted new school acts. Reekado Banks premiered this song a day to Valentine’s Day, coincidence? I don’t think so.  The laid back tune talks about love and how much true love conquers all odds. The subtle lyrics were backed by Don Jazzy’s gifted production, celebrated with Synths and Strings to elevate the message of the song. The song was followed by a self-explanatory video. Katapot surely deserves a spot on our top 50 list.

22Cynthia Morgan – German Juice

Cynthia Morgan is one bad chick you can’t resist. Not only is she endowed (I guess you know what I mean), she also knows how to break the internet with controversies and most importantly, she’s got talent. She made a fine entrance this year with one of the most boisterous dancehall tunes titled, German Juice produced by Tony Ross. The video isn’t bad after all but doesn’t quite explain what German juice means. Care to know what German Juice metaphorically means? You can hit her up on twitter and ask. Notable tracks this year by Cynthia Morgan are; Simantiniya and Baby Mama.

21Davido – Fans Mi ft. Meek Mill

Davido, one of Afro-pop’s most exciting young voices broke the internet when he made the announcement of his collaboration with U.S rapper, Meek Mill. The song was premiered successfully with a befitting but yet controversial video. Was the video actually about drug dealing or was it just a mere mind twist? Well, Davido and Meek went H.A.M on the Shizzi assembled track. The beat makes you feel high as hell; the joy in the hustle makes you wanna be a customer.

20Yemi Alade – Nagode

Yemi Alade kicked up the campaign for her 2016 album, Mama Africa with this lovely thankful song, Nagode (Thank You in Hausa). Teaming up with Selebobo that provided her biggest hit, Johnny, Yemi Alade appeals to almost every Nigerian with this lovely tune. It’s a tune that hits to the core of every Nigerian. After all who doesn’t like to tell God Thank You every now and then.

19Brymo – Duro

It’s easy to see why Brymo has generated a cult following over the past couple of years. Duro is a classic example of what he’s about these days, and it’s very easily one of the top songs of 2015. The melody, lyrics, and the vocal performance from Brymo are all top notch. But really, should we be surprised? Nope.

18Phyno – Nnunu

You thought Phyno will cool off in 2015? Nope. Not at all. Phyno teamed up with Stormrex and gave us this wonderful song that comes in very handy on a friday night when it’s time to turn up with you guys. Phyno has found a way to keep his music fresh, and different while still keeping true to his style. In 2015, this is one of those tunes that really truely rocked.

DOWNLOAD

17Kiss Daniel – Laye

Kiss Daniel followed up his big 2014 hit, Woju, with this similarly hot tune, Laye. He didn’t sway too far from what earned him his coins, sticking with a similar idea, and producer DJ Coublon. It’s one of the hottest party and wedding songs of the year.

DOWNLOAD

16Wande Coal – Ashimapeyin

Iskabaa! Wande hit up the talents of Sarz to give Nigerians one of the bigger lead singles of his sophomore album, Wanted. The song was designed for the clubs, and has been a hit in that department pretty much since its released.

15Vector – King Kong Remix ft. Phyno, Reminisce, Classiq & Uzi

In terms of hip-hop, 2015 was a bit dull for most of the year, but Vector did deliver one of the hip-hop joints of the year. The remix and the original are both dope, but with the squad of hip-hop stars (Phyno, Reminisce, Classiq, Uzi) on the remix, you gotta give this the nod. Not just making an appearance but making one that made the song even much better.

DOWNLOAD

14Seyi Shay – Right Now

You can make a case that this song should really be a hit all of over Africa at the very least. Lyrically, vocally, and melodically, Right Now by Seyi Shay is a grade A tune. This and many more on her debut album, Seyi or Shay, are the reason why Seyi Shay is readying for a big 2016.

13Masterkraft – Indomie Remix ft. CDQ, Davido, Olamide

Yes we know the original released late 2014 was dope, but it’s the remix that made this song the even bigger street anthem it was throughout 2015. Most of the magic was done by Masterkraft and the beat, all CDQ, Davido and Olamide had to do was sprinkle the magic dust… and that they did. No party in Nigeria is safe if this song is not played.

DOWNLOAD

12Ycee – Jagaban

Was there a bigger breakthrough anthem in 2015? I’ll bet my money on NO. Ycee’s Jagaban (both original and remix with Olamide) is no doubt one of the biggest anthems of the year. Ycee came with a style that’s very energetic, and street friendly. Very similar to the way olamide was 4-5 years ago or maybe even, dare I say, Da Grin. The numerous covers to this track is a testament to how dope this song is.

11Olamide – Lagos Boyz

Speaking of Olamide, he’s found a very nice sweet spot for himself. He raps, he sings, it really doesn’t matter how he does it, the fact is that he’s making big time hits. Lagos Boyz turned out to be one the biggest songs of 2015, and everything in 2015 when it came to Olamide was suffixed with ‘sneh’. Baddosneh making hits-sneh. Coming in at 11-sneh.

10Simi – Jamb Question

We kick off the top 10 with one of the best composed songs of the year. In a year where lyrics were more the after thought in many songs, Simi’s Jamb Question is all about the lyrics. Throw in the very catchy hook, great voice from Simi and very easy to follow lyrics, you have a song that easily becomes one of the best songs out of Nigeria in 2015.

DOWNLOAD

9Tekno – Duro

Something has to be said when you have one of the most requested songs of the year. Say what you want about Tekno, he’s finding a way to drop big hits, and this song, Duro is one of the biggest ones in 2015. In its simplicity it appeals to the large demographic of musical listeners who take their music as strictly enjoyment.  And really, what’s music if you can’t really enjoy it very well.

8Patoranking – My Woman, My Everything ft. Wande Coal

It was almost as if Patoranking used this single to prove to everyone that 2014 wasn’t a fluke. He’s here to say for the foreseeable future. Recruiting the talents of Wande Coal and Ghanaian producer, DJ Breezy, Patoranking did exceptionally well with this song. A lovely tribute to the special woman in anyone’s life. It could be your mother, wife, girlfriend, sister or daughter. Any way you slice it, the song applies, and that adds to the beauty of the song.

DOWNLOAD

7Dija – Awww

Done on one of Don Jazzy’s best ever beats, Dija completely captured Nigeria with the absolutely wonderful alternative love song proving to many that she’s an artists with different dimensions. A far cry from the tinini-tanana lines, Awww is lyrically solid, and dare we say it, pretty deep.

Everything come together like a perfect storm, and it turned out to be one of the stand out songs of 2015, even if it was officially released late in 2014. The numerous covers to the song is just more proof that this was a very well musically composed song.

DOWNLOAD

6Falz – Karashika

One of the lead singles of the best hip-hop album of the year (Stories That Touch), is arguably the best hip-hop song of the year. Karashika embodies everything Falz was about in 2015. Witty, funny, lyrically innovative, engaging, and musically captivating.

Karashika featured some of Falz best put together barz so much so that you can bet many Nigerian hip-hop fans recite that whole first verse in their sleep. Borrowing the talents of Phyno and Chigul helped sell the song even more, even though we know Falz could’ve done it on his own. Production by Sess, and the quality were all also top notch. A+.

DOWNLOAD

5Adekunle – Orente

Unlike his previous single before this, Orente was all originally done by Adekunle Gold, and when you sit down and think about the lyrics, you realize how wonderful this song as a whole is, even if you put aside the wonderful vocal shift he put in. As opposed to the typical love song, Orente is more about the lover that is really the best friend. It makes sense that the word Orente was gotten from his late grandmother, and it simply translate to “the loyal and beautiful girl”.

In a parallel universe this would be the type of song that would break boundaries and strike gold internationally, even if they don’t understand the lyrics. Good music is its own language.

4Harrysong – Reggae Blues

Someone once said that Nigerians love to laugh, dance, and just enjoy life. This song captures pretty much all of that. You listen to this song, and wonder how it can become such a hit, but then you listen again, and again, and before you know it, you’re joining in and singing “after the reggae play the blues”. Sometimes the simpliest things makes us the happiest.

Along with Olamide, Kcee, Iyanya and Oreze, Reggae Blues is a song that cuts across all age groups, and social classes, and it’s the biggest reason it cuts our top 5. Play it in Lekki, or Karu, Nsukka or Kafanchan, everyone will still dance and sing along. Even your boo get a boo…. A boo, A boo.

DOWNLOAD

3Korede Bello – Godwin

“I don get alert, Godwin”. That might be the most popular entry line of a song in the past 5 years, and it set the tone for one of the best songs of 2015. Korede Bello and Don Jazzy teamed up to give Nigerians the one song that could be played anywhere, and on any occasion. School, wedding, party, church, election campaign. It doesn’t really matter really, the song pretty applies to every celebratory scenario.

The message is wonderful, the production from Don Jazzy is outstanding, and the video embodied everything else about the song. When you gramdma and your 5 year old cousin are dancing to the song, and singing along, you know it’s a pop song that has really hit it big.

2WizKid – Ojuelegba Remix ft. Drake & Skepta

When it comes to being the most recognized Nigerian name in music, WizKid is the standout artist in 2o15. The debate was officially shutdown when Drake decided to lay a verse on WizKid’s hit, Ojuelegba. Does that make the song the best in 2015? You can make an argument for that. Ojuelegba, featured on WizKid’s sophomore album, Ayo, was already a hit in its own right, and having a remix with Skepta and Drake on it turned it into a mega international hit.

Hey, when everyone in Nigeria is feeling your tune, and the likes of Kylie Jenner, Alica Keys, and Swizz Beatz are dancing to it, then you can’t put say you’ve put together a very very outstanding tune.

1Olamide – Bobo

It might feel like splitting hairs trying to pick out the #1 Nigerian song of 2015, but really it wasn’t as difficult as you might have thought. From all the music experts, blogger, radio personalities and DJs, one song was a constant top 3, and that is Olamide’s Bobo.

So what makes it the number one song in Nigeria? It’s wonderfully produced, it’s ridiculously catchy, lyrically it’s simple enough to everyone to understand, and it kicked off its own dance. With Nigerians what’s better than a new dance every year? Nothing really. Olamide has found his loyal fan base in Nigeria, and that turns out to be the majority of Nigerians who after a long day/week of hustling just want to dance, dance, and dance.
