There have been lots of controversy over the academic qualification of Rtd. Gen. Buhari for the election which he eventually won but, Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed two suits to disqualify President-Elect Muhammadu Buhari from running for presidency in the concluded March 28 presidential election.
The ruling party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said Gen. Buhari rtd did not meet the constitutional requirement of a secondary school certificate for the post of president. Some days to the election, there were concerns that the President-elect would be disqualified from running for the post, the case was later adjourned to April 22, 2015. There were no fewer than 10 suits seeking Rtd Gen. Buhari’s disqualification on different grounds. All the suits were consolidated since they sought the same relief.
The court was also asked to hold that the information supplied by the APC flag-bearer in Form C.F 001 that his West African School Certificate was with the Nigerian Army was false and should be disqualified from the race. He argued that Rtd. Gen. Buhari failed to accompany the form with all relevant academic credentials.
