A suspected stowaway has reportedly died in the undercarriage compartment of an Arik Air plane at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport In Lagos.
According to the confirmation of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, revealed that the corpse was found in the Arik airbus A345, Reg CS-TFX
Punch NG further disclosed that the corpse, whose identity is yet to be known, has been deposited at an undisclosed mortuary, following due diligence by the relevant Aviation and Security agencies.
Following up on the incident, the General Manager, FAAN, Mr. Yakubu Dati, said that the flight was due to take off for JFK on Saturday night 14th March 2015. Find his words below
“Well, the aircraft was parked by the time the body was discovered, but we found out it was bound to leave for JFK later this night.”
Previous reports also made it clear that this would be the third time in the last three years that Nigerians would attempt to stowaway on flights operated by Arik Air. One of the most popular cases was that of a young boy who successfully stowed away on a Benin –Lagos flight in 2013. He was lucky to have been alive and compensated by the Edo State Government but this fellow is not as lucky as the young Lad.
Arik Spokesman Adebanji Ola confirmed that the rather sad and unclear incident is still under thorough investigation.
