#TheMOBsPick; A Weekly Top 10 Chart | February 1st 2015

#TheMOBsPick , a weekly chart of MY favourite Nigerian songs released this year, enters its third week and we have a new Number one.

Check it out:

  1. Jumabee – Mango

Mango is a special JAM! I have followed Jumabee’s progress for years now and he never disappoints. This man makes good music, seemingly effortlessly. I have a feeling he is here to stay. Get familiar!

  1. Johnny Drille – Awww (cover)

It’s a rarity for a cover to be as good as the original record, but here is one of those rare cases. This is an awesome rendition of D’ija’s ‘Awww’ – the best cover so far. Johnny Drille did commendable work on this cover. Kudos. Shout out to D’ija and Don Jazzy as well.

  1. Korede Bello – GODWIN

After the first listen, I was totally sucked in and kept playing ‘GODWIN’ for the rest of the morning. This song resonates deeply with our common desire to overcome life’s challenges and prove haters wrong. . Of course Don Jazzy’s signature player-coach back up vocals was a welcome embellishment. Great song.

  1. 4.      Orlando-Julius-ft.-Seyi-Shay-Ololufe-Remix

After holding the Number one spot for two weeks, OLOLUFE (remix) slides to fourth position this week. Seyi shay is the star of this remix, as her performance is nothing short of stellar. Kudos to Seyi Shay.

  1. 5.        Burna Boy – Rockstar

Also staying put at number two for the second week is ROCKSTAR. Burna Boy is in a class all by himself. I love the concept of the song, I appreciate the song writing and delivery, but I can’t help feeling that the general sonics of the song detracts from its greatness. I also think the song could have been better arranged to give a little more oomph to the chorus. But it’s still a brilliant song.

  1.    Rayce – Ooh Baby ft Hybrid

Rayce has never been one to follow the crowd to make “the sound the day”, and this is yet another refreshing offering from him. The songwriting could do with a little more tweaking though. But, it’s still a JAM!

  1. Eddie Izycs – Celebration

It’s been a while since I saw a young man this deft on the keyboard. The fact that he is having a go at the music industry makes me even more excited. Celebration is a beautiful Jazz construct and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. Brilliant piece.

  1. Mic Daviz – Pray ft Seriki, Hakym, Sossick & Drew

mic davis

This song in one word: DOPE. Shout out to Mic Davis for bringing the veterans together for this one. Absolutely fantastic production too. Bump this!

  1.        DreyBeatz – EBELE ft-Terry-G

I was hooked on this song from the first listen. Terry G graces this Dreybeatz produced sweet music with his usual banal lyrics but the vocal performance on this song makes you appreciate the great musician in TerryG. His animation on this song is totally contagious and now I cant get enough of it. LOVE IT!!

  1. Yung L – Awww (cover)

yung l

One would have expected a second verse from Yung L on this cover considering that he murked the one he delivered.

Keep listening to good music.

#TheMobsPick returns next Sunday.
